May 13, 2010, 12:39 PM posted in General DiscussionAnyone know of an English Chinese Dictionary software for Windows? I've bought a netbook with Windows 7 in preparing for my China trip and I'm searching for a English Chinese Dictionary with pinyin as well as Chinese characters to load into the netbook.
Strange that there are various such dictionaries for hand held devices such as the Iphone and Google Andriod, but seemingly non for the ordinary Windows computer. I've searched Amazon, Google and can't seem to find such an English to Chinese dictionary for the Windows operating system.

May 13, 2010, 03:49 PMYou can get the free Google Kingsoft Powerword version here, or buy the full version with English interface.
I don't know if they support pinyin input.

May 13, 2010, 05:37 PMHave you tried Goldendict? http://goldendict.berlios.de/
It runs on all platforms (I use it on Linux but it works on Windows too), and you can add various dictionaries to it, so you can search multiple dictionaries all at the same time. It's a bit prettier than the other open source option, Stardict. http://stardict.sourceforge.net/

May 14, 2010, 02:28 AMLast weekend, our group met to practice speaking Chinese. Someone said her boy friend is now pursuing a Phd degree.
"How do you say doctorate in Chinese?" we asked. Tim keyed "doctorate" into his offline Google Android and the Hanping dictionary showed "博士 bóshì".
This is the kind of dictionary I'm looking for - an offline Chinese English dictionary for the Windows operating system.

Never heard of it. For an on-line dictionary, I like YellowBridge.com and Adsotrans.
