I recommend you using Tone Practice to practice the 2nd and 3rd tone.

yeah, the tones,especially the 2 and 3 ones are terrible. My teacher told me to practise time and again, but it's so hard!

Hearing the different tones is what I find tricky. Especially when feeling or expression is added to it.
The biggest task for me though is managing learning time between the 3 disciplines...reading, writing and speaking. There is just not enough time in the day!

For the students living in China, I'm wondering, how much writing of Chinese characters do you do? I'm not talking about writing practice - how much writing do you do in everyday life? In what areas is it essential?

I think learn to speak Chinese is easier than to write Chinese characters.

Yes, I agree with you. I plan to make a Chinese character tattoo on my body. It's mysteriously beautiful, and the pronunciation, sounds beautiful too. But neither of them is easy to learn. HAHA~
