How long for dictionary entries to show up?
Kyle
September 09, 2007 at 03:37 PM posted in General DiscussionJust curious to see how long it takes entries we make ourselves into the dictionary for them to show up elsewhere.
There's only been once base where I've entered a new word and it showed up immediately. In some cases the entries seem to have been lost.
How does the "users creating their own entries dictionary" work? Is CPod aiming to make a wiki-style Chinese dictionary?
By the way, great work done on this dictionary. I'm really digging it!

trevelyan,
I just discovered that if I search for the newly added word in Chinese it comes up right away. Searching for the pinyin still produces no results.
Now, while my issue seems to have been resolved, I can see other CPoddies who don't have the option to type characters possibly having a problem in the future.
If you'd still like, I can send you a list of words I've recently added.

Kyle, can you send me an email or private message with the word you tried to add so I can look into it?

Just to update you guys: I tried Eileen's suggestion and got no results. Searching for vocab I've added acts as though I never added it to begin with. Strange.
Is anyone else having similar issues?

I'm using Firefox and XP.
When I add a word I immediately try and search for it again, so that I can add it to my vocab list. However, the "new search" just redirects me to the add option, as if I never added the word to begin with.
I'll try out Eileen's suggestion and get back with the results.

I'm not sure it's that easy Eileen. Javascript handles the page request. What browser/OS are you using Kyle?
If you add a word, does it show up for you if you search for it directly in the search box?

Hi Kyle,
If you are using Firefox, all you have to is to go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Under Private data section, click on Settings > Check the cache option and then press ok. After, you will be brought back to the Private Data section, press Clear. :-)

Yes, but not in real-time. We're logging them and then updating a back-end master that eventually gets pushed out to the front-end servers again.

Hey Kyle,
Changes should go live right away. The only problem might be if your browser is caching the data, and fetching the older page. We might also have problems with entries that are submitted using ONLY traditional characters, although I'm planning on fixing that.
If you're adding stuff and it isn't showing up can you message or email me so I can look into the issue? That would be a pretty major usability problem.
