The "Thank Jenny" love conquers all thread of glory - Show the Luv countdown

July 17, 2007 at 04:46 PM posted in General DiscussionLUV'A THON - A short long while ago I started to use Chinesepod. (over a year ago) Back then I would say things like, I wish there were more podcasts, maybe even 365, one for every day of the year. There are now over 500 podcasts. It must be great to be a new user of Chinesepod.
In fact though, it's still great for long time users, and a huge part of that is the dedication from the whole Cpod staff. Early on I mentioned to Jenny that I thought one of the most significant factors to learning language was having someone to share that language with every day.
Jenny has done that thru her podcasts day in and day out, and it's only a pleasure for me to tune in, engage my Chinese and grow in my ability to appreciate more things thru the Chinese language. I owe her a lot of thanks.
Of course there are the others, Ken, XiaoXia, Connie, Amber, the tech and support crew in the back...and oh yes John. I'll take the opportunity to thank John in THIS thread if he doesn't mind. Thanks John, for Sinosplice too!
I'd also like to give a shout out to the others who are active in posting and sharing their insights. I hope they'll join me in a few posts of appreciation here. :)
So hey, now I turn this thread over to YOU, over the next 24 hours, let's give a shout out to Jenny, and the other staff members. It's our tricky little ploy to make them happy and work harder for us!!
谢谢Chinesepod!
Countdown starts now, where are you posting from!
1:00 a.m. China time now
1:00 p.m. East Coast USA
2:00 p.m. Halifax
7:00 p.m. Oslo

hylith,
I think we went to the same kindergarten. I was constantly teased because of my surname and for that particular reason which you mentioned. No hard feelings though, was a great character building experience.
Thanks a lot for your support!

I have been looking for a program to teach me Chinese without being too text book, and within my own pace. These lessons are great... I got some off the internet and decided to check out the web page. My Chinese has improved massively as I listen to your lessons a total of about 12-14 hours within the past few days.
I love how your lessons always incorporate words previously taught, while teaching something new. I admit, I laughed the first time I heard Jenny's name.. because of course Zhu means pig. "My name is Jenny Zhu" It was a good light-hearted way to start the lessons. Her tones and clarity were immaculate! I will refer you to whoever I know, who wants to learn Chinese!!!

I have to say a BIG THANKS to Jenny too.
While I know CPod is the work of many great people, a few whom I was just honored to meet in Shanghai in May, I do have to say Jenny is all-around gold and would have her personality/voice/whatever-it-was was the reason I was stuck on CPod from the first day I was sent an email from a friend to check it out.
And every day, like I guess all of us, my thankfulness grows in knowing her that I just have to share here. I just left China three days ago, something I didn't really want to do and she knows my love for China, so the night before I left she gave me a call while I was in a taxi to say good-bye. I was very touched, and will remember that taxi ride always. :-) It was almost like she was right there to say good-bye as my Tianjin friends had done, and almost as wonderful as when I got to sit and talk with her at a coffee shop in Shanghai. Thanks Jenny for taking the time to care. You are greatly appreciated.
Wow, haven't we set up a shrine here for her? :P Yet I had to tell my little story... not many people I know who took the time to do what she did and who has the traits that Amber listed above.

TRIPLE SUPER DUPER - Jenny, intentional or unintentional, the triple post was a'lot of LUV. We love you too, probably as much as we do Hagaan-Daz Belgian Chocolate with Chocolate Chips.
AZ-ER-Doc-Mom, did you know it took me a loooong time before I realized it was AZ-Arizona and not AZER. I totally get it now though. :)
Here's a word that seems to me is used much more in Chinese, especially when apologizing, "gu yi" or "on purpose“. Maybe in English as adults we don't say this much, but in Chinese it seems quite common. ...At least in all the t.v. dramas I watch.
Anyway, I thought of this after seeing Jenny's triple-luv post and some other recent posts. ;p
GUYI
我没有故意的!
wo mei you gu yi de!
I didn't do it intentionally.
故意 gu4 yi4, intentionally
意是意思的意。故不是古代的古,是故宫的故。
It's the 'yi' from 'meaning.'
It's not the 'gu' from 'old times', but the 'gu' from 'imperial palace.‘

Jenny, this is another great opportunity to say "xie xie" for your hard work and positive energy you bring to Chinesepod. As I told you before, you have an intangible gift of clarity and voice that is not easily duplicated by others. Of course, the entire CP staff deserves best compliments as well. I am still wondering if Aggie Xiang is somehow related to my family! My last name is Xiang, ( 項 斯 耀 ), as well. My journey into Mandarin could not have started so well without you all. Now I can "dui4 hua4" with my Chinese friends in San Francisco. Even though it's elementary, it's better than last year when I was a "Shanghai/American mute!", i.e. I come from a Shanghainese speaking family. In synchronistic fashion, I was introduced to a neighbor, Du4 lao3 shi1 who teaches Mandarin at a nearby college. Now we have become good friends and she is always policing my tones and grammar. So presently, I have online and a real lao3 shi1. Best of both worlds... Now on to tackle stage 2 - characters, Han4 yu3, which I have been delaying. It will be gratifying to be able to read like other CPoders.

I'll join in too! Thank you Jenny! It's a joy coming here and learning from you. In fact, you may be one of the main reasons I have stuck with learning Mandarin so far.

There are not enough ways in either English or Chinese to express my gratitude for the service that Jenny provides us, my family, and my self.
Thank you Jenny.

Yes,
I see Jenny (well almost) every day, not just hear her on podcasts, and I can attest firsthand that she is a genuine, true, real, humble, good person, whom I am happy to know!

You can also have:
Googolplex is the number 1010100.
lt can also be written as 10googol, or
10^{\scriptscriptstyle10\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000\,000}

July 18, 2007 at 08:30 AMWow I did not know this, how interesting 有趣有趣,you qu you qu. --------------- A googol is the large number 10100, that is, the digit 1 followed by one hundred zeros. Google, the Internet search engine, was named after this number. Larry Page, one of the founders, was fascinated with mathematics and Googol, even during high school. They ended up with "Google" due to a spelling mistake. (I like that...a spelling mistake!) Its official English number name is ten duotrigintillion = 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Wait a minute, we can't have this dearth of posts on a "Thank Jenny" thread! Come on! I think this is a BRILLIANT thread!
Jenny, you are a little Christmas present which I get everyday at 6pm, one that I anticipate with great excitement, counting down the hours till it's time to check my computer for the next little package of linguistic joy : )
Thank you a GOOGOL times (do you know what number a googol is? It's the number that Google is based on.)

恶意 - Jenny has bad hair. John can't jump. It always rains in Vancouver. And everyone should write in bo fo mo. Pinyin is bad, go traditional. Heck, and what's with Ken's fake Irish accent, we know he's Chinese. And don't buy any more Made In China products. Americans all have guns.
You all have forced me to go negative. 我没办法啊 !;p
(Please no response posts with real profanity, insults or flaming, I'm only joking)
