Hi,
Does anyone know some good chinese radios, that offer streaming (preferably on iTunes). As it would mostly be to practice my listening, it should have some talks. Thanks in advance for your help.

In iTunes, try clicking on "Radio" under Library, then "International/World". Click on "RFI Chinois", which is a Chinese language news stream provided by Radio France International.

Thanks for posting the link to Jenny's radio station, rjberki.

Jenny, excellent! Your playlist was just the kind of jazz I like. I listened to your 12JUN2009 show. Was it your selection?

My Chinese still isn't good enough to understand much of the banter, but it was fun trying to pick out words and phrases. The music gave me time to look them up.

祝你好运!Good luck!

on the site Jenny gave us above you will find some pop. It is all chinese but you can use babel fish to translate entire page and see the pop listings all at once.

I'm looking for Chinese-speaking stations/programs that do almost the opposite of what you guys are discussing above. I'm looking for Chinese pop music sites, preferably with a Chinese announcer talking between songs (Taiwan, China, U.S., Canada, whatever). Any ideas?

I'm adding that radio to my favorites list!

I love the jazz, and the combination of music and chinese conversation. And it's always nice to hear Jenny's dulcet tones.

The sound comes thru so clearly too.

If you are interested in radio program from mainland China, this site gives you access to listen to live streaming of virtually all the stations in China. But the site is all in Chinese and quite hard to navigate. I suggest you ramdonly click on a listing at any time and start listening.

@RJberki and Changye,

You are too kind. BTW, you can also listen to Soulfire shows on the site above.

Hi rjberki

That's a great website. I've bookmarked it now. There is nothing better than listening to both our Jenny and Jazz on Saturday morning! Thanks a lot!

I agree with mikeinewshot and rjberki-- since they mentioned 北国之声 I have become addicted. "The Voice from the North" does lively and fair coverage of Chinese and Canadian news. They had some interesting coverage of a recent anniversary commemoration that is held every year in Toronto.

Actually, my favorite Chinese listening practice is our own Jenny Zhu. As many of you know, Jen, being the over-achiever and music buff that she is, holds a second job. To those that didnt know, there is no cause for alarm. Im sure Jenny will be with us at cpod for a long time to come.

Listen to Jenny on soulfire radio here:

@fudawei

I just found an article explaining how to read mms protocole in iTunes:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060120152924831#comments

Now I can listen to any of the radio you've listed above directly in iTunes, sweet!

Thanks for your help.

@sgn316 fugawei is right on it.

Hmmm ... scratch about 99% of what I said.

Evidently, iTunes doesn't like the "mms" protocol.

You can still plug those into the Windows Media Player (and others, I'm sure), but I know that's not what you're looking for.

Oh, and @sgn316 ...

I'm sure he's looking for what most everyone else who inquires about radio here is looking for: A steady source of conversational Mandarin, whether it be formal news broadcasts, lively round-table discussions, a bit of cross-talk, radio drama, casual chatter or whatever.

I'm confused.  I don't claim to understand iTunes that well, but why do you need a .pls file?  Isn't there a menu option to subscribe directly to a stream provided by the user?

Here are some talk-heavy examples:

mms://alive.rbc.cn/am603

mms://alive.rbc.cn/fm1025

mms://alive.rbc.cn/fm1039

mms://alive.rbc.cn/fm974

John B posted something useful on Twitter the other day:

papajohn: @RavinDave for #mandarin search "baidu radio" and check out the various 交通广播 -- they're mostly for taxi drivers, and quite talky.
Hope that helps!

@mikeinewshot and rjberki: thanks, sounds like an interesting podcast.

@sharesindavid: thanks, you're right, unfortunatelly it only works on ie

@calkins: I don't "need" to use iTunes, it's just a matter of preferences, I like to keep my audio files/streams centralized in iTunes, that's all.

Thanks everyone for your answers

Bastien, the majority of the links in that list work.  You just need to use a media player.  I recommend VLC.  Is there a reason you need to use itunes?  Just curious.

Also check out CCTV streaming television (seems to only work on IE)

The Voice from the North is what I listen to.  It is from Canada - I think Andy the anchor's Chinese is really good to listen to ....

It produces podcasts on weekdays.

I don't have the URL handy, but you can google it.  If you can't find it, let me know.

Thanks.
I also saw this list, but most of the links don't even work. Also it seems fairly complicated to find a chinese radio station that offers the possibility to listen to it via iTunes ( by offering a .pls file )

Bastien, here's a good list of stations from China, HK, Singapore, and Taiwan.
