A text message from my ayi
John
February 12, 2009 at 02:53 AM posted in General DiscussionMy ayi doesn't send me text messages very often, and this one is clearly a forward, but I thought I'd share it with you users, because it 很有中国特色 (hén yǒu Zhōngguó tèsè)!
今天是观音菩萨出家日1福2禄3寿4喜5财6路神仙都来保佑你,你要传给6个好友,四天后你一定好运临头,如删除或不发一年不顺!发吧,据说挺灵
I hate forward "scare tactics," so I'm not sharing it for that reason, but it's still interesting. I'll let you guys try to figure it out first, and the ChinesePod team can lend a hand if you need it.
I'm also curious if you guys are interested in seeing more Chinese forwards or even Chinese spam. There is tons of it we could be sharing (for educational purposes only, of course).
Also, just for some background: my ayi is from 东北, and I once wrote about her on my blog.

changye,
More or less the same thing, but the term "chain letter" feels outdated to me in a world where no one really writes "letters" anymore. We usually call them "forwards" because you just "forward" (转发) them on without writing anything.

Hi alexyu_yxj
Thanks for explaining. I believe the word is 和尚 -- monk.
In fact, some people leave their spouse and children behind when they get religion. That gives 出家 a whole new level of meaning.

In Chinese, 出家 means to be a bonze or a Buddhist nun.

I accidentally deleted the message. Does that mean I will receive 1 year of bad luck ? :(

Hmm...what could she mean by 出家? Does this mean a quick trip to the Family Mart for a cup of tofu on a stick and a milk tea?
