Editing Comments
Right-Wingnut
October 15, 2013 at 06:17 AM posted in General DiscussionThe facility for editing comments seems to have disappeared. Previously we had a 15 minute window for editing, but now no edit option is visible.
A possibly related issue - immediately after posting a comment, you are now told that it was posted 1 hour ago.

What I mean is that it is working when I post a reply here, but when I do the same to lesson, I get no edit or delete option. Anybody there???

Actually this is interesting!
It didn't work for me when I posted a comment against a lesson, but I notice that my comment above does give me an edit option!!

Thanks for fixing the edit problem.
Edit: Just checking that it works.
Still says the comment was posted an hour ago though, but I guess that doesn't really matter.

Indeed.... At least now its "broken" in our favor, more or less. I doubt either change was intentional in nature. Good luck.

In fact it has been 'over-fixed'. I still have edit capability 16 hours later. Not that I see that as an issue.

Hey guys,
Sorry for my absence. Unfortunately the tech team has been incredibly busy the last few weeks with some big overhauls in our back-end. There's nothing I can do at the moment about this issue. All I can ask is that you're patient. Once they're less busy I can bring this issue to their attention. In the meantime, please reread your comments before you post and realize that we will all forgive some spelling or grammar mistakes. Thank you for your understanding as we resolve this issue.

I am also experienced time travel thanks to CPod. As soon as I post a comment it shows as being posted "one hour ago" and cannot be edited. Hey, Cpod, give me my hour back! I know it was not a case of alien abduction.
Let me edit my comments, in case I make a spilling errer :(

Are you there Alex? Im assuming you are the new customer service rep although no one ever said Justin was leaving, and the "TEAM" page still lists Peter Ning, who was customer service during the Tang dynasty. Anyway welcome aboard and how about that edit issue?

FWIW, I also get this "1 hour ago" notice. I'm running Windows 7 with Chrome.

Yes, the behaviour is exactly the same, I get "1 hour ago from the web. Reply" and that is all.
I am currently using Nightly (Windows 8 version of Firefox)

I will now use the add comment feature to confirm whether it also does not allow you to edit your comment.

ALEX,
why ask if you have no intention of returning to check for a response?

trust me Absent Alex, its broken and has been for several weeks. I have tried several browsers and there is no longer an edit function because immediately the post is time stamped "1 hour ago". Perhaps this was done intentionally?

The problem is any comment you make (other than original posts), whether it is in lessons or groups.
When you tested the function, were you using a standard user account, or one with special privileges that a team member might get?

It is quite simple. I type my reply to an existing comment, and click the reply button. The comment is accepted and it says "1 hour ago" and there is no option to edit.
At least that is what has happened consistently to me for some weeks. If it does NOT happen to this comment I will follow it with another

Hello guys,
Just wanted to check in. I apologize for being absent from the group recently. As far as editing comments, are we talking in lessons? in this feed? or everywhere?
Either way I just went through and tested this function and it allowed me to edit my own comments. Please provide a little more information before I get the tech team involved.
As always, thanks for keeping us posted on bugs!

Still, I'm sure they don't need a web developer in order to reply to our concerns, even it is just to tell us what you've just told me.

According to the newsletter they are still looking to recruit a web developer.
