"Play" button on individual sentences doesn't work

I'm not even sure if that is what it is, but next to each sentence in the dialogue I see what looks like a "play" button, I assumed this allows me to play the dialogue sentence by sentence, is this correct? In my case it does nothing, or at least nothing that I can see. I have tried several lessons. I'm using latest version of Firefox.
