Jenny： 对，但是也觉得肯定是很开心很【叫】的事情， 然后另外在中国我们比较幸运这是有啊自己的父母帮你带小孩儿，然后也有阿姨，所以，啊，我们很多女性还是可以继续自己分享【下】的工作，所以这点让我觉得很幸运 (right, but I also think it's definitely something that makes you very happy, and also in China we're pretty lucky because we have our own parents that help you bring up your child, and also Ayi's [nanny's], so,ah, a lot of women can still continue some work, so I think I'm very lucky)

Jenny： 我我感觉这是，啊，你生了孩子以后你的生活你【再往回看】就很清楚的，有一个分水岭就是生孩子之前和生孩子之后， 然后现在这是基本上生活这是被这个小孩儿给主导 (I feel this...after giving birth your life 【looking back on your life】 it becomes very clear that there's a watershed which is your life before and after giving birth, so basically now my child is preeminent in my life now/my main focus/predominant)

If I want to get up at a certain time then I can just get up at that time 【don't have someone telling me I must, saying】ah, "today you must get up at 7 o'clock", so if I want to go somewhere for fun I just go there, if I want to go somewhere to eat, I just go there to eat, hehe

dilu: 这个就有点受不了。 那比较喜欢自己玩，然后自己去做一些攻略，然后想去自己想去的地方。(I find this somewhat unbearable. I prefer to have fun on my own, then go and "storm and capture" /make my own plan of attack, then I can go wherever I like)

jenny: 嗯，好。所以她是事业也很好，然后自己这个旅游度假也玩儿地很开心 (ok, good oh. so that activity is also very good. So after having fun on a trip by yourself makes you happy)

一身轻 is one of the terms they picked up and put in the Dialogue tab. The translation there is “unburdened”.

Obviously I really wasn't sure either, though I did have an idea of what might have been meant by Jenny. 不用那么客气。其实我问过好几个中国朋友怎么考驾照，但是回答都不一样! 可能每个地方都不一样，或者在近十几年来，考试改变了好几次。

As far as I understand it:

There's definately I theory test. I've been told that you buy a book with 1000 questions in it and memorize them. 100 or so of these questions will come up in the test. You need 90% to pass. I believe this is done at a test centre on a computer.

I guess there's also this electronic test carried out on a "fake road" (where computers moitor your performance) as well as a test with an examiner (which I'm told is on real roads).

I think this would be great material for a CPod lesson (either UI or a BST), especially as we have a teacher who has gone through the experience so recently).

I think her meaning is that she passed that one [all by] herself (i.e. without the use of a 红包).

...hmm, yeah, unclear the 电子考 bit I'm guessing you're referring to . My guess would be she's referring to an online written test about the road rules [as opposed to the practical driving test]. Well, I guess it wouldn't have to be online, but maybe it's on some computer or other similar electronic testing device...you register and then do the test yourself. Just a guess of course ,hehe. Or if it's not a written test, perhaps its like a car driving video game. I don't think it's referring to electric vehicles, is it.

oh thanks Zhen. 有道理 yeah, I wrongly presumed when she said she bought the house on 1st of January last year that she'd moved in then. But what you're saying makes complete sense and fits the language better also. Just shows there's some value in trying to translate it. Some bad translation just comes from the difficulty of translating without sounding too awkward, but some, as in this case, can be just getting off on the wrong track. Thanks for setting me right.

Doesn't 交房 mean the handing over of the home to the owner? I think she went to see the model and the site and some furnished model apartments (assuming here it‘s a condominium and not a house), and signed the contract to buy it, and all last year they were still building it. A poddie was asking about this in the lesson but I don't think the question was really answered.

I've been tripped up by this 工程 several times recently. I always thought it was more often used to mean a big engineering-type project, rather than as a more general term meaning "project". For this more general purpose, I always thought 项目 was more commonly used. I take it that 工程 actually is pretty commonly used for "project" as opposed to engineering project? The engineering aspect comes in more when we say 工程师?

Greater Chinese? 没有没有没有。 Well I'm not sure about this 实质; I'm sure there's a good chance it‘s just emphasis. But maybe I was thinking in Japanese here--the word would mean "actual", "real, not abstract".

【实】。。。hmm, I'll just have to bow to your greater Chinese on this one. Certainly the 质 is a strong 4th tone, and next to that the shi does sound second tone I agree now that I've listened again though personally I couldn't be certain that it wasn't just the contrast in emphasis that gave me that impression. Any thoughts on a contrast in emphasis? I'd be interested in the translation of that bit..how 实 adds to the overall meaning and slots in there. I guess it's just "real". Google has roughly equal matches for both shi's. Anyhow, great pickup Zhen. You're ear for tones is awesome.
