Christmas present
matthiask
December 14, 2007 at 10:31 AM posted in General Discussionher christmas gift would be 100 chinese sentences, freely spoken by me on christmas eve. The worst thing: Sentences like
窝不蟹黄吃面包。
握蟹黄贩。
are counting as one.
Any ideas how to memorize 100 sentences within 10 days?

I just taught my kids the yuèláiyuè...pattern...as in "yuèláiyuè pòng! (kid bro to teenage sis), or, in your case, matthiask, "yuèláiyuè ài nǐ", or, "nǐ yuèláiyuè piàoliàng"

I second henning's idea. You could actually do a bunch of 3-4 character sentences using a simple 我__你 pattern, and then double them by converting them all to a 你__我吗? pattern.
It might seem like cheating, but it will get you there...

If you run out of time you might want to look for recombinations.
我一点也不饿。
我一点也不困。
If you need an impressive one - take this from the "Adoption" lesson:
我会把我所有的爱都给你。

加油。
Less than 10 per day left. You will make it. And in the end you will profit most from your present.
But don't forget to share your final selection with us.

one sentence may like this:
圣诞快乐!
shen dan kai le!
Merry christmas !
Or another one may be:
我爱你,猪猪!
wǒ aì nǐ ,zhuzhu!
I love you,honey!

What does your progress report say with the count down at less than seven days now?
What's your favourite sentence?

Here is one that may get a laugh:
我需要你的衣服,靴子还有摩托车。
wǒ xū yào nǐ de yī fu, xuē zi hái yǒu mó tuō chē.
I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

Learning sentences from songs will give you the wrong tones, so what you say will make no sense at all, or worse.

Bazza, matthiask wants 'freely spoken' by him by which he means fluency I guess, so he needs a recording he can play over and over, text only won't work. How about song lyrics though?

Actually you should get the complete book and memorize it. It is really incredibly hilarious.

December 14, 2007 at 07:47 PMYou should definately learn the following title of a book we bought for my kids in Beijing: 不是我干的 bú shì wǒ gànde I didn't do it

Why do we all post one sentence each?
One of my recently learnt favourites:
我一点也不知道
wǒ yī diǎn yě bù zhī dao
I haven't a clue

hey xiaodai, :-) I wanna keep my girlfriend. But I will definitely become a fix addict over the next 10 days.
Thank you all for your comments so far

Yeah, you may want to stay away from Shakespeare for now "-) But Goulniky has a great plan.

so then, pick up 10 Newbie lessons on topics of interest to you, if you combine the dialogue with the Fix, each lesson should give you about 10 sentences, one lesson a day.

"who ever lov'd, that lov'd not at first sight?"
"It lies not in our power to love or hate, for will in us is over-rul'd by fate."

does that mean you have 100 set phrases to memorize or you can select your own? If the latter I'd suggest to play 20 Newbie lesson non-stop, that should cover your 100 sentences, not that hard (forget about 蟹黄 and 汉字 for now. Alternatively, download one of the public domain recordings of Tang poetry (唐诗) or the Three-character Classic (三字经) and just repeat. That's only 30 sentences / day.

Of course that would be a lie.
It takes at least 2 hours for love to get it's claws into your heart. ;)

Learn how to say:
"I loved you the first time I saw you"
really well.
Then learn how to count to a hundred.

December 19, 2007 at 08:40 AMI like the 越来越 pattern. thanks :)
and John: well, if it fits in the whole concept, I will certainly do it, but real cheating is no option.
I got a sentence from my girlfriend. Well its actually a couple of them:
四是四。十是十。十四是十四。四十是四十。
