Deleting downloaded lessons?

March 27, 2011 at 09:46 PM posted in General DiscussionHey there,
Does anyone know how to manage the downloaded lessons on my iPhone. I mean is there a way to delete the lessons if I run out of space?
Thanks in advance,
Juergen

It works now. We apologize for the disruption and thank you very much for your understanding.

Jenny is correct, it's a temporary (we hope!) issue caused by the server problems that we've been having. We're hoping to clear up the server issues today or at latest tomorrow, and with it the mobile device log in. I'll second Jenny in saying we're very sorry about the interruption of service.

We sincerely apologize! I think the current status of the app is caused by our server breakdown and the major store switch. I am truly truly sorry about the inconvenience caused. Please be assured that we are committed to solve the problems and do things properly. I will let Johnb get back to you next morning. In the meantime, I know it's not ideal, but I am afraid app users will need to go back to the website to use the service. 对不起!谢谢大家!

The download manager is planned for the version after next. The next version is being submitted to Apple on Monday, and will contain a variety of bug fixes (including the refresh bug that samuelsherry mentioned), and compatibility with a site update that is also coming on Monday.
We know that there are a lot of issues with the iPhone and Android apps, and we are working on them. It's a slow process and we aplogize for it, but we are working to make it better.

I've given hope of them ever producing a version of the iPhone app that actually works. Generally they fix one thing, break another. None of the older lessons work properly. It's the only app which makes me nervous about upgrading iOS. I just use the website these days...unless I'm on a plane, when I can't. Rebate my subscription, highly unlikely.

Is there an expected ETA for the iPhone bug fixes?
At least for me, my mobile device is the primary way in which I interact with ChinesePod. It's a little annoying that I need to logout and login to clear the cache, but it's super-problematic that the lesson lists continuously refreshes, preventing me from seeing more than the last 10 lessons for more than a few seconds.

Good to know that iPhone app development is proceeding. I had also begun to assume that nobody at CPod was looking at it any more. The bugs that you refer to were identified many months ago. More site changes? How about restoring the mobile site, which was abandoned. It would be nice to be able to easily search and bookmark a lesson from the iPhone so that we could then use it in the mobile app. Better still, why not include that function in the mobile app itself?

Sorry, we missed this thread.
Right now download management is rather poor -- the only way to clear the download cache is to log out and log back in again. We're planning a proper download manager for the version after next (the next small version fixes a few bugs related to loading more lessons, and adds support for some upcoming changes to the website itself).

Is iPhone app development even active? I'd look at contracting some of this work out, its basic enough...

This is quite bad! There must be a way to delete the lessons downloaded to our phones other than uninstalling the entire app. I don't want to put them on if I can't get them off in the future. Most lessons I just need to listen to three times or so, and then want to delete them off my phone.
Come on ChinesePod. As IPhone App users we are all premium subscribers and deserve better treatment. Simply being able to erase off an old lesson doesn't seem like a feature you would have forgot.

I can't see one, apart from deleting the app and reinstalling it :-(
