I've never even done such a search

yeah, avg has come up with a completely clean bill of health for ages...never sure if that's a good thing or not...but it now appears it was napping.

thanks mate. I did sort of find that out at the end..though it gave me a free trial which worked in cleaning it once you registered.

Just be aware that, although Vipre will do the scan for free, it will not let you clean until you pay for it.

I find it interesting that you say you 'just' did a full virus scan
...yeah, good observation. I have wondered about it myself. Previously AVG full scans did take around an hour or so. But for months now they've been more like 15 minutes even for a full scan. I'm not sure if it's because of upgrading to windows 7 or not. Mind you, this Viper is over an hour and still going. Maybe AVG has got lazy in later versions. Dunno. Anyhow, I really appreciate y'all trying to help. Muchos Gracias. :)

thanks xiao_liang,
that's exactly what I got onto after my post above about my clean scan....uninstalling my virus scanner [which happened to be AVG....I notice your comment below] and going with go_manly's viper. Seems to be doing a sterling job. It looks like it was just something in the lowest threat category "potentially unwanted" and in fact viper has allowed it. At least ..it was the "mywebsearch toolbar" and that was the site that kept appearing...a mywebsearch search. I think it must be one of those toolbars that gets downloaded when you download other stuff.

And if you don't want to pay, AVG is a consistently highly rated free virus checker.

I was previously using Avast, and it kept telling me I had no viruses. But my computer was getting slower and slower. I switched to Vipre, it found about 10 viruses, and everything is back to normal.
http://www.pcantivirusreviews.com/ rates Vipre as the number one for 2010.
I find it interesting that you say you 'just' did a full virus scan. Perhaps you don't have much on your computer, but my scans generally take at least a couple of hours, much longer if I do a full scan.

Yes, the linked site, not CPod itself. I hope you haven't already picked up a virus.
