September 27, 2010 at 7:12 AMTotally with Chanelle re the ladies. Not to go into further detail, but you have factors in the ladies that you would not see in the mens. To be honest I found it appalling how early in the day they got so filthy--this in a very modern, "western" office building in the Gubei area of SH, all new tenants, no shops, not very many visitors from outside that I could see. How how how? I really don't know.

September 21, 2010 at 8:13 PM(ach. I did listen before I commented ...) well 吃吃看 is given in the lesson of course, so I guess its usage for "try some food" is common enough, certainly not limited to Alice in Wonderland (or Garden of Eden) situations. 不好意思 for that.

September 21, 2010 at 10:34 AMThanks Baba for the shout-out for the prefamiliarisation (note: link takes time to reach the specific comment)! I first learned (请) 尝尝 / 尝尝 (吧)！ in a non-CPod lesson on Chinese tea, so have always understood it is used for beverages.
About 吃吃看 and 喝喝看, 尝尝 is "having a taste", not really eating or drinking (consuming, ingesting). 喝 to me seems like quenching thirst.
But so one instance someone might have said 吃吃看 (or 喝喝看)--perhaps Alice did, in the Chinese translation before she took a bite of mushroom or drank the potion labeled "Drink Me". Because she's eating, or drinking (= trying), to see what happens as a result. Maybe somebody knows this? I'll go take a look when I have time to go to the library.Posted on: 多音字

我比较熟悉内地的沙漠怎么样。大学同屋是个 desert girl，我跟她去过她家（离 Palm Springs 不那么远的一个市镇）好几次。看来那边的生活蛮舒适，方便。不过我个人还是爱我们这儿的四季和天气的变化。晴天雨天都喜欢。耐寒也喜欢！生活中一点点的不方便我觉得也挺好的。

旧金山我去过几次，都是秋天或者春天，没体验过冬天有多冷。像好多观光客一样我也很喜欢旧金山的街景，真的有独特气氛。
有一次去洛杉矶出差的时候我坐火车（慢车）花了十一个小时到旧金山去玩儿。I did enjoy the slow train ride, but have a feeling that will be the first and last time ...
地震虽然我们这儿（我住在日本）经常有，但还是不习惯。很可怕。

But to the extent that a pigsty is their environment forced on them by humans, I guess the insult still stands. I have no idea how a pig would live and keep house if not captive, I've never seen.
