(for what it's worth, I do think the standard Mandarin "zh" sound is very close to the "g" in "genre". It's in my name after all!)

I believe someone when they say they meant no insult.
Would just like to say anyway that mentioning the word "jerk" so closely with a person's name is best avoided, particularly when the meaning is not clear from the context. Our efforts to assume good faith at all times notwithstanding, I think there will always be at least some of us who see something like that and interpret it as an insult.

I think the (standard) Mandarin "zh" is very close to the "g" in "genre". It's definitely not the same as "j" in any English word I can think of, despite the claim above that it's the same sound as "j" in "beef jerky".

I think you meant to say "Besides the meanings tal mentioned above, 汉 is also the name of ...", not "Despite".
You could also say "In addition to the meanings tal mentioned above, 汉 is also (and you can omit "also" in this case) the name of ..."

Masabumi Hosono's grandson Haruomi is a famous musician, one of the founding members of the Yellow Magic Orchestra. YMO is like the Adam and Eve of Japanese technopop. I'm not particularly a fan of technopop (can't really figure out how to dance to that stuff) but it's enjoyable once in a while, like 可口可乐 kěkǒukělè.
One of their most famous songs is Rydeen (30 years ago! Where do the decades fly?):

Back to "Dutch"--I have only met generous Dutch people. To me "Dutch" doesn't mean stingy; it means very tall.
