Watching it now! In fact, listened to this show on the way to grandma's house to watch it with the family. What's with all the singers miming?

Oh I agree - vocab lists are deathly boring. Can you recommend a better way to get the massive step up in necessary vocab to reach the next level?

Also, your main recommendation out of this lesson is to learn characters. I find nothing harder or duller! I know in Japanese there are those brilliant Kanji books that teach you to learn the characters by the stories of the radicals - do you know of any more entertaining ways to learn hanzi?

I'm in exactly the same place. I think Chinesepod is really really good at teaching you sentence construction and situational vocab, but the next step to being really confident enough to go to upper intermediate is building a decent vocabulary for yourself, and that just takes a lot of hard grinding.

Unless anyone's got any better suggestions?

Hi again everyone, by the way!

Hi Cpod. You renamed all the other Zhang Liang and Lili lessons, but missed this one out!

Hello!

As I understand it, it depends on where you're planning on using your Chinese. Simplified characters are used across Mainland China, whereas traditional is used in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and places where Cantonese is spoken, like Guangzhou.

Hope that helps.

I saw a poor woman limping up the steps to the sun yat sen memorial in high heels. I've never seen anyone look so uncomfortable...

Is 聊天 liao2tian1 used for just online chatting, or chatting in general?

I really liked Jing'an temple. Particularly it was fun watching people trying to throw all the coins into the centre tower.

I loved how you could look up and see these ultra modern buildings framed by this ancient structure.
