As an aside...

Has anyone noticed the huge number of abandoned rusting bicycles in Shanghai?  It is as if the person chained it up and then left it.  The tires are flat, the sides rusting.  Some have trees growing through the wheel spokes.  Some are on porches, others are next to fences...  Very interesting...

Question;

In the sentence,

有一天,他很早就回家
Yǒu yī tiān, tā hěn zǎojiù huíjiā le.
One day, he went home really early.

Does the particle "le" refer to "really early", or to the fact that he went home early?

早就回家

zǎojiù huíjiā le.

really early.

I do not want to split hairs, but I guess that I am asking what part of the sentence that le is the particle to....
