知道了。yuridiana217 thanks. That may explain why my taiwanese coworker corrected my mistake like this:

仕麼 -> 什麼 but not to 甚麼 (though i do like this character for shen2).

Good point, orangina. "How" weighs just as much as "What" is said. Especially with negative words (no, not).

I see the words 搜身 sou1shen1, and 身体检查 shen1ti3 jian3cha2 when i looked up the word "frisk."

I agree, it is a good idea. That picture of Yao Ming's look-alike is a hilarious. And so is that phrase - never heard that one.

it sounded like the young guy mistook the older fellow as an acquaintance (until K & J broke down the dialog).

But,  i can still count all the chinese words i know. 

If for example, the younger guy was a delivering a package for Mr. Li, what would the older man's (who is not Mr. Li) reply be in this situation?

younger guy: Are you Mr. Li?

older man: ???

Actually, it was so far from my mind that i didn't realize that the word "jerk" was the problem until i wondered why you used "beef jerky"

I sent Tal_ a private message explaining that also, and asking to be excused. Actually, I am now asking everyone in the community to excuse my error because it is clear it has unintentionally offended others as well. 

And i appreciate your reply very much zhenglijiang. I don't know if this is a real word in Chinese or not, but here we go: 大大谢谢！And to you, and all, especially tal_, my apologies.

Oh, Tal, insult was not my intention. Let me clarify. I like your picture of the finger and would've liked using it right at the end like an emoticon. Plus it suits you i think because you tend to make good points in the comments.

Will you grant me a pardon?

As for the difference in sound between zh and j, my newbie ears may just not be perceiving it yet. I was particularly thinking of the combination of the consonant and vowel sound, though.

In the traditional version of the transcript, shen2me is written as 甚麼 as well as 什麼. Is there any difference between these two?

By the way, English does have that zhi sound in the word "jerk" (picture tal's finger here).
