pretzellogic, I don't think Chinese have any monopoly on food prejudice - some love to try the food of other areas and some only like what they are used to. Northerners look askance at the strange things Southern people eat, or revel in the variety and seasoning, and Southerners think Northerners don't have any idea how to eat, or enjoy the plain clean flavours.

American Chinese food is a whole other variety.

抓 have usually seen referring to food that is eaten with the hands  like 抓饭、 手抓排骨.

Another term for food that is pulled apart by the chef is 手撕 - in Chengdu you can get astoundingly delicious 手撕 麻辣烤兔 (numbing/spicy bbq rabbit) and 手撕烤鸭 (bbq duck) .

Here is a personal ad posted by a Chinese girl (via Chinasmack). It's been translated to English.

非诚勿扰 is traditionally rendered 'no triflers'  but it would sound weird in a modern ad

can recall a joke personal requesting something like: "Fruit, cake, dash sherry, custard...no triflers please"

Another essential massage term is 痒 yang3 - tickle.

A local Chinese person explained to me recently that when you are making a relationship with someone any questions are fair game if the answer will give the responder face. If they are likely to have a high salary or good job, ask them about their salary or job - they'll get face by talking about their salary or position.

@bababard Zoolander is 超级名模 or 名模大间谍

and the line about 'can't not die in a freak gasoline fight accident' is subtitled as

也会 死于 可怕 的 汽油 意外中 in a version I found on youku.

I can't afford expensive power cords; when I had to buy a new power cord for laptop last week official one at laptop store cost over Y500. Bought one for Y45 in computer city.

Hi changye,  I don't mean illegally copied (pirated) material...I thought  黑版 referred to original content that is not official or not permitted more for political reasons, like an underground newspaper. Something unique to areas where there is no guaranteed freedom of the press.

黑版 - underground publishing. (Hope that is the right 版)

have eaten 墨西哥牛肉 in an upscale Chinese restaurant here...thin slices of apparently boiled beef arranged over sliced rings of mild red and green pepper, all in a pool of coffee.

a local tex-mex place has burrito as 墨西哥肉卷、 taco as 塔可...
