Just recently, sadly enough, I had to move back into the business district of Qingdao, beforehand, however I was lucky enough to spend several months living in 'The Old-City.'  Most Saturdays were spent just wondering the tree-lined cobblestone roads, going down every random crook and crany, finding churches, mansions and Bavarian-style villas throughout.  Most of which were originally erected by Germany during their occupation which began c.1987.  It would be interesting to know which booming coastal city in China has held on to the highest percent of early 20th-century and colonial architecture.  Not to boast, but I think Qingdao would be up there on the list.

Thanks for the help man.  I took a look at the sights, but, what I am looking for is a type of tool where all you have to do is highlight the word and then instantly it is translated in a pop-up box, without leaving the page you were concurrently looking at. 

Sorry, I should have been more specific in the first message.  Also, these sights may have that and I somehow completely overlooked it.  Eitherway, thanks again for the help.

Sorry this may be a bit irrelevant but any help would be greatly appreciated.  On my Mac I used to have a type of Babylon software that would allow me to instantly translate a word to and from Mandarin, however when I recently upgraded Mozilla it disappeared.  Does anybody know of an equivalent or superior, free, instant-translation software?  Thanks!

For  尴尬 (awkward) in the supplementary vocabulary, can this be used to describe people, places and situations?  Would really appreciate some examples.  I enjoy adressing awkward silences/situations.  谢谢

It was my belief that a bit of chubbiness (what would be considered unhealthy by most in the States) is usually viewed as a positive thing in China. Wouldn’t this have indefinitely been true during the Great Chinese Famine (三年大饑荒 –san nian  zi ran zai hai) just more than forty years ago?  However, maybe this idea is rapidly changing at a speed proportionate to the rise in obesity rates.
A few years back I remember standing on a Shanghai street corner with a friend, (who had quite a larger belly than myself) chatting with a traffic cop (交警-jiaojing). The cop then turned to my friend and commented on how healthy he was, while free of arrogance, at the time I would have been selected by 100 out of 100 Americans as the healthiest.
