Posted on: Pulling Out all the Stops for Complement 住

Thank you.  We really had no idea how to use 住before. It just popped up at the end of some verbs sometimes.

So I can we say 我忍不住在爱你 or 我控制不住在爱你

but does 我在爱不住你  sound too weird?  How would Ray Charles' "I can't stop loving you" be put in Chinese?

我忍不住在爱你.

我忍不住继续爱你

我。。。。?

This seems like a really simple distinction but it is nice to have it spelled out so clearly.

I'd like a Qing Wen on the differences between 跟 and 对.  Most of the time it seems pretty clear when to use, for example, 跟他 and when to use 对他, but not always.  I might have guessed that I would 对他比赛, but, I think, in fact I 跟他比赛, isn't that right?

Great lesson.  I see now that Lao Wang has moved to upper intermediate and juicy soap operas are there, I have to move there too instead of sticking to what has become the easier plain intermediate.  I guess that means I'm learning something, and I'm not the  窝囊 I think I am when I slack off on Cpod.

BTW, it is refreshing to see that Cpod allows Miantiao's explanation, because all the US sites usually bleep those words out.

"Dare" as in "I dare not (verb phrase)" was used more frequently by English speakers a century ago, especially those from the UK and former colonies. We still hear it occasionally but now it sounds quaint or even pretentious.

What really sad news that Pete is leaving.  Today would have been a great fall day here in Massachusetts except for this news.  :-(

I hope at least we get one more Qing Wen with him.

On the other hand, I wish I were a Newbie and in Shanghai more often than one month each year, so I could take the Great Start.  Will the next level be a Great Leap ?

What a great idea for a Qing Wen.  We have been looking up 餐厅, 中餐,and other words on Google‘s 地图, but we're not sure what the differences are.  Now we will listen to Qing Wen and find out.

Matt_c,

thanks for separating out the audio complaints.  While I know that the feedback is helpful, reading through the complaints while looking for more helpful comments and questions about the lesson can be really depressing.

Uh oh.  I hope this isn't one of those complaints.  Well, about Lao Wang, I agree with Inland that I want a happy ending and hope he didn't really "off"

小赵.  Maybe 小赵 is really the police, 警察, and he made a deal with Lao Wang.  Please???

On the other hand, if 缺心眼儿 is really as derogatory as Kimiik indicates, then we need to get Lao Wang and his wife to some marriage counseling.

Ken and Jenny,

Here is The End of the Earth off Hainan Dao. We didn't actually go out in the boats to touch it. Nearby is the statue of Zhao Ding, the Prime Minister of the Southern Song Dynasty who was banished to "the ends of the earth."

These promotions are really great but we've been missing them because we paid in advance until 2010.  It looks like we should plan to pay only one month at a time so we can take advantage of the promotions.

Oh, wait, I bet we got a bargain by paying in advance.  Hmmm.  We'll have to think about that.
