May 4, 2008 at 2:47 AMchangye said, "On the other hand, the history of “您”, or its alternative “恁”, seems to be much shorter than that of “你”. It is said that those characters began to be used in Jin dynasty (金朝, 1115-1234). Interestingly, “您” or “恁” are the condensed form (or sound) of “你们 (ni men)”, and originally they only meant “you (both single and plural)”, but not “you (honorific)”." Ahh.. the youth of today.. they don't respect people as much as they used to back in the Qin dynasty.. that's why we need a special word for respecting our elders.. (please note: I just made all that up, it's not true! :))

May 4, 2008 at 2:45 AMNot sure how to embed pictures into the discussions, otherwise I would show my dog from a different angle.. in any case.. he is an 13.5 year old (14.5 year old now *subtle hint*), Jack Russell-X-Terrier whom I got for my 18th birthday. He was 6 months old, or thereabouts, in the local dog pound... so I am not really 100% sure of his birthday but we think about 6 months old at that point..

May 3, 2008 at 10:39 AMActually the second one doesn't have a lot of learning content.. haha.. so not a great example.. but there are others on there with a lot more learning content. The thing I like the most is that it's more of a commentary on what is happening with a few bits and pieces of relevant dialogue thrown in, with the words on the screen like subtitles.

May 3, 2008 at 10:34 AMOooh! Is it in the theme of "The Saturday Show"? Or perhaps it is "Live with Jenny Zhu"?.. Or perhaps a video based show, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_oVIfRILmg and this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWVla3QufQw Those are awesome.. I don't know why more of these videos weren't made. I can understand some reasons for the Saturday Show being cancelled.. but these videos have so much benefit to them. The second one, "Working Out" is also extremely funny.. :)

May 4, 2008 at 3:18 AMAhh.. When I looked up "ting" without the tone, I couldn't find any reference to it being associated with a container of any kind. Now that I have the tone to narrow the search parameters, the search engine I was using has suddenly found it.. doh! So yeh.. this is the measure word for tin-can.. which is the original thing Robert was trying to say with 罐头 .. So yeh.. either 一听可乐 or 一罐可乐 seems to be adequate.. but if 一听 is more widely used.. then that is the one to use.. haha
