December 7, 2008 at 7:54 AMBesides Connie there is also Amber and Pete.. (but we all know who the real star is, right?) :) haha..

December 5, 2008 at 8:03 AMIt sounds like Pete to me.. I might be wrong but it really does sound like his voice.
It sounded very natural sounding but had a distinct accent/twang to it that I am used to hearing when Pete speaks.

December 3, 2008 at 7:34 PMHaha.. I really enjoyed the dialogue. I am not at this level yet but I really liked the male's part acting. It was very amusing. :)
I have to go to work right now.. but I'll be back tonight to listen to the rest. I think it's good to listen to these levels for me now.. it's very challenging but I think it's good to be challenged.
Posted on: To bag or not to bag?
December 2, 2008 at 7:57 AMThere is certainly no "anti plastic bag" movement in Australia at the moment. Every now and then the government pushes the idea again but it never really sticks. If it's ever going to work there needs to real value in it.
Even when I buy pearl milktea they ask me if I want a bag! A bag for a drink!! And I am always surprised at how many people want a bag to put their drink into. That's just a good example of how plastic-friendly we are in Australia. Also, if the lady at the shop thinks one bag will break, she will put my already filled shopping bag into another plastic bag!..

November 30, 2008 at 12:31 AMAfter speaking with people from Wuhan, I know they also have their own accent/dialect and of course there is Shanghainese as well. I imagine that each area of China has its own accent/dialect but how many are so different that you wouldn't understand one from the other?
I'll be going to Shanghai, Wuhan, Chengdu, Xi'an and Beijing next year, so it will be interesting to hear how they are sound. The Hungry Traveler series is a good start I suppose and I know there has been topics on accents before but I'd really like to see more lessons focusing on a single accent/dialect in the future. May be at the Elementary or Intermediate level.. because afterall, this is ChinesePOD not MandarinPOD.
I really enjoyed the DA today, I liked both parts just as much as each other this time. I found it odd that you, Amber, had difficulty with the BeiJing accent because it has a definite North American/Canadian "twang" to it in someways.

November 27, 2008 at 6:08 PMEven when there is plenty of room, on trains in Sydney, people are still rude and uncaring of others on the trains. I always think to myself, "You should buy a car if you want luxury trip to work...". So I have to agree with Pete's comment here:
"But I think you forfeit your right to push others, eat pungent foods, and generally screw up the works each time you use a public means of transit"

November 25, 2008 at 6:56 PMAnd Ken can be the official line-cutter so that we can practise saying "pai dui" :)
Posted on: Get in line!
November 25, 2008 at 9:58 AMHrmm.. is dui pronounced "du-woi" or "du-way"? When I listen to it on some days, I definitely hear it as "du-way" and then now and then I hear it, as in this lesson, as "du-woi".. confused.

December 7, 2008 at 7:56 PMThanks wchan! :) That's really what I meant to say and even though I knew I had it wrong, I thought the way I had said it was kind of cute..just like Connie is cute.. :)
小型明星 would have been closer to what I was trying to say with my original one.. but maybe I can not use 小型 with 明星?
Also, what is 地道? I assume this means that it sounds more natural but my dictionary says "Tunnel/causeway"。。 silly dictionaries always getting it wrong :)
