笔 (bǐ) - Actually doesn't just mean pen or pencil, it also means "to write or compose".
记 (jì) - means "to note/mark/sign", "to remember", "to record"
本 (běn) - is a classifier for books

If you're teaching Primary School kids, then you probably won't even need to know how to say "ni hao". Apparently there's two teachers in the classroom: 1 Native Chinese and 1 Native English speaker.. I am also looking into doing the same thing though it won't be for a couple of years yet.. I still need to get my TESOL certification, and it's pretty expensive.. so I need to save up for it.

December 31, 2008 at 10:36 PMOne of my native-speaker buddies that I get tips and Chinese corrections from said that even he doesn't understand it, he just knows when to use it but he can't explain it to me. :) If he sees me use it in the wrong place or not use it when I should, he can tell me and sometimes is able to half-explain why but yeh.. it's a tricky particle to say the least.

Yup true.. but I am now at a point where I am finding that I am actually starting to understand everything on a new level. I have a VERY long way to go before I can say that I can speak/write Chinese competently but I'm just at that turning point.. so using the right measure word, for the right noun is important for me now whereas it wasn't before..

December 31, 2008 at 8:14 AMI had a lot of trouble loading the Mobile Recharging Station image (found in Jenny's first conversation post), I think because it is stored on a China based domain. So I've re-submitted it to my flickr page (you can click for a bigger picture):
A question I have had about mobile phones in China is: Can I take any Australian mobile and plug in a China SIM card without any problems? Also what about a phone that has 2G and 3G Wifi internet connectivity? It would be great if I could take my HipTop Slide (a.k.a. Sidekick in the USA) and use it to connect to internet in case I get lost etc etc.
