Anyone else having trouble downloading or listening to this lesson?

Liu Fang,

Thanks for the great lesson idea. We'll do a lesson on the actual interview process.

Allow me to indulge in a bit of self promo:

I recently shot a video clip: Jenny Zhu’s China, a visual commentary on the fascinating facets of Chinese culture and society. Each episode fatures a selection of videos showcasing an interesting aspect of China, everything from news to user generated content. Thanks to Aric Queen for helping me shoot and being the observing friend on the pilot. Like the lighting, there is a lot of room for improvement. I deeply appreciate your thoughts and suggestions!

In this episode:

1. Dancing in the park

2. Potato chips—the family glue

3. Journey to West: a Chinese animation from the 1950’s

Enjoy!

The internet nature of our work makes me feel  constantly being in a 上班 state. But I am also in the 1% of population who really enjoys working. You guys make work so rewarding for us.

很精彩的对话!虽然有一点儿stereotype. 中国爱跳舞的人特别多。许多中老年人去公园跳,年轻人去舞蹈教师学。

Korea tops the chart of foreign students studying in China. I know a couple of university students from Korea. They all went to high school here in Shanghai. And they didn't come because their parents moved here. It was actually the other way around. Their parents sent them here to master Chinese.

On another note, Korean pop culture everything from soap opera to fashion is massive in China.

Yes, Changye, and you explained it so well as usual.

About the songit’s a folk song from Xin Jiang called青春舞曲/qing1 chun1 wu3 qu3/song of youth. It ‘s a very well known tune in China. A Beijing musician named 王洛宾/Wang Luobin was instrumental in bringing the wonderful music from Xin Jiang to the national stage. I wrote a blog entry about his life and work. There are also several beautiful songs.

This clip is from the massively popular Super Girl contest in 2007, the most successful year for the competition. The girl got second prize but like most talent show contestants, her popularity is dwindling. But she does a fantastic job here.
