My mom used to scare me out of bed by lying about time. She would always add 20 minutes to what time it actually was. But it always worked.

桂林米粉 is a beloved lunch choice in China. Not a day goes by without a mifen delivered to the office.

reigau,

I have never ever heard anyone use 没拿手。

You can't use a direct object with 拿手. In daily speech though, you could put an object before 拿手 in the form of X, 我拿手 or 不拿手。For example, 点菜, 我不拿手。

synesthasia88,

香/xiang1 is a very versatile word. It can mean both smells good and tastes good. It can also be used on almost every kind of food, from Gongbao chicken to apple pie.

synesthasia88,

Yes, I did make a mistake. 买 is third tone, not second tone. We are going to make the correction. But due to cache issues, it will take effect next Tuesday.
My sincere apologies. Poddies, thank you for your understanding.

Pearltowerpete,

Connie uses Sougou. It has cutesy design of Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh. When you type, you see these cartoon characters pop out rather than a dull box.

During late 80's to early 90's, many urban Chinese parents would save for several years to buy a piano for the kid. The big back drop is these parents were the generation that didn't go to school due to the Cultural Revolution. So they condensed all their hopes onto the kid and genuinely wanted to provide endless learning ipportunities for their kids. I grew up in this environment and it was a rather painful and demanding experience. Luckily, my parents didn't force me to learn any music instrument. My next door neighbor wasn't so lucky. Almost every night, I would hear sounds of piano accompanied by his mom's scolding, occasional beating and his constant crying.
