June 22, 2007 at 9:15 AMJOHN: " ... but if you have to listen to an audio intro that long over and over again ... it gets really annoying." But what was the result? It was exactly at that point that Aric felt compelled to goose up the pipa music so that it intruded over the lessons. (Maybe not a big thing in upper levels, but not a great idea for Newbies). I would have maybe reworked it; shortened it a bit. It had a tacit psychological effect. Sort of a Pavlovian "Strap yourself in, here comes the Chinese!" to get the juices flowing and clear ones mind.

June 19, 2007 at 9:27 AMAnyone who would take offense at Carl Douglas's mindless disco era "Kung Fu Fighting" song simply has issues. It was a bouncy novelty song -- not an dissertation on ethnology. And I'd love to see any evidence that it caused the slightest protest. It came out in 1974 -- several years before political correctness came into vogue, tied our tongues and made people hypersensitive to every syllable of every utterance. Moreover, Aric used ONE LINE from it. (Heck, even Disney used it last year in their "Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior" movie.) So, I guess the lesson is: If you look hard enough, you can find reason to take offense (real or imagined) in most anything.

June 19, 2007 at 4:25 AMWhy not go back and use Aric's brilliant original CPOD jingle, that was unceremonious tossed aside because of one or two whiners?

May 4, 2007 at 8:52 AMI was wondering what the new Chinesepod logo means. I think it means they're moving into the cellular phone market. ;) I miss the old logo too. Waited to long to get a T-Shirt and currently kicking myself.

April 25, 2007 at 11:03 AMAny chance of fixing this one? It's part of a batch I'm trying to study. What are the odds I'd zero in on the one (out of 180) that is thoroughly munged?

April 23, 2007 at 6:02 AMAgain ... for the third time: Is there any reason you guys suddenly switched from diacritical pinyin to numbered pinyin in the “Exercise” sections?

December 15, 2007 at 1:14 AMSomeone needs to fix the transcript for this lesson. The translations of the last (2) entries are truncated. While we're at it ... what's the difference between 不要客气 (bùyào kèqi) and 别客气 (biékèqi)?
