So, is there some subtle difference between 元旦快乐 (yuándàn kuàilè) and 新年好 (xīnnián hǎo) ?

kawaiinatz ... Whats the difference in English between taking a "taxi" and taking a "cab"? 出租车 (chūzūchē) is just an older word for taxi. 的 (dī) is a newer word, coming from Hong Kong, and changed a bit in the process. The full form is 的士 (dīshì). I'm guessing you could probably say 坐的 (zuò dī) or 打出租车 (dǎ chūzūchē) and still be understood, but you probably want to stick to the examples given in the lesson.

The Transcript is munged on this one. The final phrase of the dialog ( 太好了。 ) is not translated (Tài hǎo le. / Very good.)

Very sad to hear that Eileen is leaving. Doubly sad that I missed her last few months due to my own family concerns (ie: I've took a short break and all heck broke loose while I was away). Eileen was always particularly helpful in cutting through the CPOD bottlenecks and explaining the logic behind new policies. She was one of my all-time favs here.
