April 15, 2008 at 6:02 AMwildyaks; 刷卡(shua1ka3)-means to pay with a credit card, for example, you can say 把卡刷爆。(ba3 ka3 shua1bao4)meaning you spent all the money on your credit card... Expression ˝使劲刷˝ refers to this context and it means; do your utmost to spend money from a credit card.

April 12, 2008 at 10:41 AMthis show made me think of four-leaved clovers and ladybugs with four dots... all the different worlds of ˝collective˝ terms and abstract generalities... at least number 8 leaves us similar connotations in both cultures..in China some people are willing to pay more money for a SIM card as long as it contains number 8, because the soud of it is similar to 发财（fa1cai2)... In my opinion the taste of baijiu cannot be compared with vodka´s taste. Latter can be always improved if not completely disguised with a little help of fizzy sprite and orange juice... You cannot hide the awful taste of baijiu no matter how hard you try..:) It always surprises me when I see chinese people enjoying baijiu...considering 一般来说他们一点儿酒量也没有...

November 2, 2008 at 11:49 AMthe mentioning of Wuhu brought back good memories.. Last year I was learning mandarin there for 6 months and I loved it...The city is lovely, it has many parks and lakes and as much inhabitans as my home-country ..;)
The only problem was that their local dialect is completely different from putonghua, so I had a lot of difficulties in communicating outside the school.
The city is changing sooooo quickly; I couldn´t believe how they were able to build one of the biggest amusement parks in Asia in just a couple of months... A month after the opening some people were stucked in the air on the roller-coaster for hours... but that´s another story..
I wish to be able to go back soon...
