If you are only interested in those specific topics you are inventorying, sure you can find a lesson for it, most probably at beginner or intermediate level. I guess the vocation of Cpod is to cover extensive vocabulary in a vast cultural context.
So don't take your case and needs for a generality. Apparently you enjoy shopping and site-seeing and have to deal with bureaucrates... I have different needs and guess other students (not necessarily Westerners BTW) have even other interests and needs.

March 18, 2009 at 11:24 AMWow, that's must certainly be a controversial topic here in China, looking at the thread of emails. I hope the Cpod team will not refrain from making great lessons on controversial topics like this! Most certainly we are here not only dealing with the American culture, but the Chinese, and many others (French for my part). So we should brush our sensitivity a bit and not feel offended as soon as taken off the beaten track.
My five cent contribution to the veggie vs. carnivore polemic. Apparently everyone puts a limit at some level, ranging from human to mushrooms (I heard they had animal's characteristics). I personally don't eat any meat above see level :) I don't really like fish or seafood but found that compromise to be accepted socially. To be complete vegetarian is tough in some countries; in China it is in fact much easier than in France for example. And I am candide enough to think fishes or shells are down enough in the scale topping at human beings.
Being half a veggie does not mean I don't tolerate meat eating: my two daughters are meat lovers, and I believe it helps them growing healthily. My sister is a cattle breeder and I respect her work.
One last remark to Changye: Muslims do not eat pork and not beef as you said ;)

February 22, 2008 at 12:26 PM朱琦，你说“deja vu” 的发音也不算错了，因为用的是一个英语的词（那就不算法语咯）。英语有很多这样的“假朋友”，写法从法语来的，发音有些改变，意思完全不同。发育的“deja vu”应该是英语的“cliché","commonplace"。其实“cliché” 也是从法语来的；）对吧goulniki?

One thing I want to ask: what is that sound concluding each episode (sound of something shut)? The story started a bit supernatural: I was expecting some evil spirit (the silence of the lambs kind). It turned to be a detective story. All I can say is: we want more! Erwan
