Posted on: Ending your sentence with 嘛 (ma)
April 16, 2008 at 9:12 PMI'm in Taiwan, and I don't think I've ever heard 嘛 used as a substitute for "...ummm..." Can someone verify this? Is this also used in Taiwan or just in the mainland?

April 14, 2008 at 2:36 AMJust wanted to report a few small problems with the Expansion section. There are two sentences where the recorded voice and the written sentences do not match. 我們將會對做出突出貢獻的人予以獎勵。 [In the recording "突出" is left out] 我能成功,要感謝經理的賞識。 [In the recording it's "你" and not "我"] Thanks!

April 6, 2008 at 5:43 AMA question for the teachers: 春節體現了中國文化中以家庭為重的悠久傳統。 I'm understanding the 以...為 as "with...as" pattern. Is this correct? So the above sentence would translate as: "The Chinese New Year embodies // in Chinese Culture // with family (as) being an important // long-held tradition." Got any tips on how I can wrap myself around this sentence? I'm having trouble parsing this one (from the expansion section). Thanks- Daniel
