April 27, 2008 at 9:36 AMHi auntie68, AFAIK, the term 南洋 generally refers to countries in Southeast Asia like Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, etc. 金山 is a little more complicated, because you have 旧金山 which means San Francisco; and 新金山, meaning Melbourne. The latter, however, seems to be less common in general usage.
