RJ, thx for the well wishes. We have 2 black cats (twins) 小胖子 and 小瘦子. Both have been caught in traps, in total 4 times. They escaped luckily 3 times. One time my husband found our cat (and the neighbour's) in a trap just outside the fence. I removed the traps, kept one as evidence. I live in a suburb and my compound is next to farm land. Farmer's or other people catch cats and sell for 5 RMB. They are shipped to 广东 and end up on the dinner table.

The last incident was the worst one and most costly experience. I spend a few 万 to get my little friend back on his feet :-). Anyway, my black cats have been lucky, but are not allowed to go out anymore.

There is vet care but it is very different (and quite expensive) than Europe is my experience: Hygiene standards, procedures etc. I needed help here and went for the clinic where they loved animals the most and I had good experiences with in the past. Think that is one's best bet in China :-). In the end a caring doctor is the best one, is my opinion.

For 2 months I went daily to the animal clinic, all I can say is: a whole new world opens up and great for language practice! And yes, in a few weeks he will be just fine! :-)

Hi Baba, seems that we are not moving to Dubai and stay in China for at least a few more mornths! (which is not bad). We do not know where we are going next, but I am crossing my fingers it is a nice place (HK, SH or just back home :-) !). Any place where there is Chinese is good, so that gives me many options haha! Good the links work now!

It was, but has a good ending! This happened back in June 20th (hsk exam that is why I remember :-)) and almost 4 months later his left side has healed completely and the wound on his right side almost closed. Everything got infected several times and needed many operations to restore muscles and tissues (truly horrible) but against all expectations he made it!

Worth mentioning is: when the doctors ran out of options and resorted to their last (Chinese herbal medicine) somehow it worked and the wound started to close!

Ok, thx for sharing! And cats are not?

My cat was caught by local 农民 and as a consequence the muscles in both legs were cut through. After 1 day in agonizing pain the poor thing dragged his body back home because he heard me calling him. If that is not loyalty I do not know what it ? :-)

hmm both work fine for me (using vpn). Anyway, first story you can find on Chinasmack.com, the second one will come up if you google on 南京 猫 and 广东 :-) But then again, maybe it is better if you do not read it haha.

Actually I think it is relatively common to eat cats, especially in 广东. Heard a story about it on the radio and my driver thought it was completely normal to do so. Also my former ayi admitted she ate cat meat..

Having a hard time focusing on my work and ignoring this topic :-).

Yesterday, my ayi told me a story about a cat who can speak (Chinese). It was on tv this weekend and I am trying to find the vid, but no luck yet. I did find this:
