hahaha, grammatically right sentences are so 2009. All the kids use wrong ones these days. Ok, now, they do have also right ones :-) The wrong sentences are used to point out common mistakes. Please also note that this book is published in 1995, however, it was suggested by my teacher as a very useful book, especially for nuances in usage.

Ah I see sorry to hear it does not work for you! As Tal pointed out, there is so much other stuff out there (online and offline if I speak for myself). If I may make a suggestion: for offline studying I recommend this book (many example sentences), you can take it away with you, but unfortunately no sound files :-)

http://www.blcup.com/en/list_1.asp?id=287 amazon china is a bit cheaper (price + shipping) but does not have it at the moment.

Hi guys,

Have you tried nciku.com for the suppl. vocab? Just copy paste the word you are interested in and you get many sentences. For example 决定 results in nearly 900 examples (sentences). Maybe Cpod wants to spend there limited times / recourses on something else that is relatively more difficult to find on the web (grammar guide for example)? Just a thought, no critique :-) !

Here the link for 决定

This is what I recently learnt about 人家 and 别人 maybe it is helpful for someone else as well :-) :

人家 is a rough equivalent of 他 or 他们, referring to a particular person or a particular group of persons excluding the speaker and the listener on condition that the referent has to be mentioned earlier. 人家 can also be used to refer to the speaker himself / herself.

- 我问过三四个大夫, 人家 (=大夫们)都说我的身体没有问题。

- 他这么关心我, 我要是不努力, 怎么对得起人家 (=他)呢?

- 大家 (=我)就是不想去, 别烦我了。

When used in a nominal phrase, it renders a vivid tone.

- 你看人家老李, 多舒服啊!

Comparison 人家 - 别人

人家 can be used either for third person general reference or for the first and third person definite reference.

- 我不喜欢穿人家穿过的衣服。(general reference).

- 人家老王是人, 我也是人, 人家能那样, 我就不能那样吗? (def. ref. for 3rd p.)

- 人家都累死了, 你还在看报纸。 今天你做晚饭, 我要休息休息。 (1st p. ref.)

别人 is used for 3rd p. gen. ref.

- 要学关心, 理解别人。

- 除了你, 别人都不知道。

别人can follow 有 or 没有, while 人家 can not.

- 家里只要母亲和我, 没有别人。

- 除了我还别人知道这事。

note: I tried to make the layout better but somehow that does not work.

I asked this question at my uni and it most likely means to write an email in stead of sending it. Cpod any thoughts on this?

Can you say ""打 email“ ( 给你打个email)?  I'm quite sure I have heard this 打 in stead of 发 a lot around me, but I have been told by a teacher this is "not done". Anyone?
