May 3, 2008 at 11:15 AMchangye, 你到中国多少年了?学习中文多久了?我想你可算是在chinesepod里的“中国通”了。 对,现在中国的医疗行业确实存在这样或那样的不足,有很多地方有待改进,毕竟这关系到人们的生命财产安全。近些年来,中国政府也在着力解决这类的问题。

April 28, 2008 at 12:13 PMHi RJ, Thank you very much for helping me to understand clearly about the new expression. I got it now. I feel so sorry that delay to give the translation about that sentence. 1.Man seldom cries, for sorrow hardly arrives. 2.Man don't shed tears until it really hurts. 3.Men do not cry easily, because haven't felt the real sorrow. Those three sentences above are all show that kind of meaning.

April 22, 2008 at 2:24 PMHi changye, Oh, I am sure the third one is a female. LOL I had listened to the lesson more than six times today! For me, I speak 福州话with my parents in daily life.oh, I just can communicate with my old grandmother in 福州话. In China, many older folks just can speak their own dialect. Anyway, I get used to use Mandarin. I have five roommates, two speak闽南话,one speaks龙岩话 and one speaks建瓯话. I can not understand all those dialects very well, but i can understand some of the words. We all speak Mandarin so that we can communicate and understand each other very well. So that is what Jenny said, most chinese people speak standard Mandarin nowadays.

April 22, 2008 at 12:27 PMChangye and kimlytton, According to the lesson, the first one is北方女人,the second one is 台湾男人 and the third one is上海女人. Vduncan, I am from Fujian Province, and the second one , I mean the taiwanese's accent is kindof familiar with South Fujian accent, called闽南语min3nan2yu3. Fujian Province is one of the most complicated accents area in China. There are about 6 accents area in Fujian province. 福州话、闽南话、客家话、莆田话、永安话、建瓯话。The most influenced one is 闽南话. And In Chinatown, you will hear most chinese people speak 福州话fuzhouhua. I think it will be better for you to tell the difference if there are some long conversations in different accents. I guess Jenny and John are preparing the Regional Accents2, hope we can hear some more dialog then.

May 3, 2008 at 1:06 PMha, rjberki, good question. If I have not listen to Richard speaking English before, just listen to Richard speaking Chinese, I guess I can not tell that he is a foreigner.^_^ And about the "accent", I guess Richard may learn Chinese in Beijing for some years.
