You are right, there are about 7 kinds of dialects in Fujian province. I can only understand fuzhouniese福州话, I don't know Min Nan dialects either. You must learn 闽南话since your wife is from 泉州, which is in the southern part of Fujian Province. If you know 闽南话 that might help a little when you communicate with your mother-in-law岳母.:-D

When I watched the 7th 汉语桥competition in last year's summer, I never knew that one of the contestants will become chinesepod's manager one day! It is really cool!! 世界说大就大，说小就小，实在是太奇妙了！:-)
