Pete and Miantiao, I can't really agree with your comments (as they pertain to the Olympics).  Yes, I think all of those issues are important and should be addressed, I just don't see how they have anything to do with the Olympics.

The Olympics was like one massive advertisement for China.  Great advertising is expensive, and if it pays off the rewards are plentiful.  Not everything that happened during the Olympics was great for China's image, but I'd say overall it will payoff greatly for the country as a whole.

Yes, the Beijing Olympics were the most costly in history (around US$40 billion I think), but the majority of that was spent on infrastructure (not just sporting venues...this includes airports, subways, roads, commercial zones, beautification, etc.), and much of the investment came from the private sector, not only from the government.

Before Beijing 2008, much of the world (mostly the West) still saw China as a third-world country.  We could argue that many parts of China still are, but what the world saw of China during the Olympics was a modern and affluent country.  Just as important, the world learned that its people are mostly good and well-intentioned - I think it's still difficult for much of the West to see China post-Mao.  Beijing did a great job of changing that.

With the continued money that comes into China from tourism, foreign investment, jobs created, etc. etc., hopefully the Chinese government will put some of those monies towards some of the projects you guys mention.

Pete, et al, apologies for my snippy remarks.  I was having a bad day...and sometimes I take out my frustrations on Cpod, like a wife or best friend ;-)  Not that treating them like that is okay, but you know what I mean!

Now where's my dinner?

Maybe it's our (those who have nothing better to do with our time) way of saying when you ask a stupid question, you may get an unsolicited response.

Have some patience....it's a virtue right?

BTW, this is a community, and as such, people will try to answer others' questions.  If you have a tech. question specifically for a Cpod employee (and it just cannot wait), send them a personal message.  Why clog the community with a senseless question, especially when it's only been a day since Jenny said the problem would get resolved?  Things take time.

RJ, much thanks for the literal translations.  I also love these and find them extremely helpful.  It's one of those great features in WLCP.

Bob, I think what Jenny was saying is that she would have someone start working on it Monday morning.  It's lunchtime in SH...it may not be a quick fix.  We should give them at least 24 hours...you know how Mondays can be right.

Ha ha teach_beach!  Have you ever heard of something called entertainment?  Art, film, photography, fashion, sports, etc. etc. etc.

It's a beautiful thing to those who appreciate it.

And to answer your question, yes, it was worth all the money that China put into the Olympics.  Even in the current economic state the world is in, it was worth every 分 fēn.

Jenny, much thanks for the additional explanation of 温!  I always prefer my 奶茶 to be 温的。Now that it's getting hot in Taiwan, we'll see if I switch to 冰的 ;)

Hi luolina27, you can watch this video (from the old Vocab Tour series) on street food:

Street Food Buffet

The entire series is really great...produced quite differently than the Menu Stealer, but still well done and useful.

Speaking of 一会儿 , I was surprised to hear the spoken in the Taiwanese dialogue.  Should we assume that character A is visiting from the mainland?

Interestingly, Taiwanese don't speak the 儿 , but they write it.
