In the 3rd expansion sentence 不来就不来吧, can you really say this without a 想 ?

That is: 不想来就不来吧

For the 4th expansion sentence, is "你打不过他的" really an example of the use of 不过 ?  It seems to be an example of the use of 打不过.

Or am I missing something?

For the second last expansion sentence "他的球踢得太臭了", shouldn't that instead be "他(踢/足)球踢得太臭了" ?

The passive doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

被 is the marker for the passive voice.

The passive voice is a construction which removes the subject from the sentence.

In English this is accomplished with the verb 'to be'.

For example, "I am shot", "I was shot", "I have been shot".

There is no indication of who did the shooting, as would be the case with "he shot me" - that is the active voice.

This Chinese sentence says that his car was scraped, without indicating the 'scraper'.

However both the Chinese and English constructions do allow you to indicate the 'scraper' indirectly.

In English it is "My car was scraped BY you".

In Chinese it would be 我的车被你刮了. It this case it can be translated as 'by', but that doesn't really work when the 'doer' is not mentioned. So you just have to accept that 我的车被刮了 means 'my car was/has been scraped'.
