"China has, to my knowledge, never claimed to be a communist country (though during the Great Leap Forward they claimed they were only a few years away from it)."

Are you serious?! China is covered with posters that are made by the communist propaganda comittee, and the posters usually have that written on them. There are over a 100,000,000 Chinese people who pay dues to the Chinese communist party. This comment of yours is delusional.

Tingyun, believe whatever you want to believe

Here's the answer to the question you asked:

A communist country is one in which all social and economic activity and is controlled in a totalitarian way by a single and self-perpetuating political party. There are no elections, no human rights, no freedom of press, no freedom of speech, and rule of law is a facade.

that may be because people generally view America as a capitalist country, so there isn't a need to emphasize that by saying "capitalist America". China, on the other hand, is a country that most people seem to not realize is a

straight-up communist country. I'm sure there are lots of people who would disagree, but in my opinion China is straight-up communist country. That's why I'm trying to find a way to say "communist China"

A country can have a monarch and still be a republic if it's a constitutional monarchy, like the UK, Canada, Japan, Norway, and many others. Can you name any countries that claim to be republics but aren't? Besides China and North Korea

Typo above. I meant:

The reason I want to know how to say this is NOT so that I can distinguish it from Taiwan, but just to emphasize that China is a communist country.

I think you're right about that, but that means "People's Republic of China". I want to know how to say "Communist China".

Since you mentioned it, I'm going to say that "People's Republic of China" is about as legitimate a name as "Democratic People's Republic of North Korea", which is North Korea's official name. Neither of these countries are republics, because "republic" means a country with elected leaders

Question:  How do we say "Communist China" in Chinese? Is it 共产主义的中国,  or is there a better way to say it?

This is a useful lesson because China is a communist country.  To understand China and Chinese, one must understand Marxism and Soviet style communism

I agree with you about dolphins and whales. Also, since we both pay attention to animals, I just want to say I'm a big fan of David Attenborough.
