Interesting isn't it? Not just 'clouds', but beautifully coloured clouds. :) A Yunnan native told me how clouds have such a special place in the culture. They act like an umbrella, shading this beautiful land. Even when it rains it is beautiful, because it creates the colours of the rainbow. Aren't we lucky? (I didn't like to point out that we are in the worst drought in 60 years.)

There is plenty of abbreviation, in advertising and in all forms of the language, makes it hard for the reader. 七彩云南 means the same as 彩云 - they translate as colourful Yunnan, or just Yunnan, but '彩' conveys a lot of information beyond the English colourful. It is code for a very rich culture. 彩云 is used by everyone - Government, advertisers etc. Restaurateurs obviously! I don't know the name of the device, Laziness? :)

It includes about 60 RMB worth of things you can't identify and probably won't eat, because they don't look much like food. ;-)

七彩云南 - 'colourful' Yunnan. Barbs, I can't help much about this (I've read about it but forgotten). Just that the 七彩 and the idea of 'colourful clouds' is deeply embedded in the local culture.

I went to a special dinner where the 菜单 said 头盘彩云冷拼生态丰收蓝 tou pan cai yun leng pin sheng tai feng shou lan (translated elaborately on the menu as Hors D'oeuvre in the shape of colourful clouds). :)

Yunnan food can also be referred to as 滇菜 diāncài,from 滇池 Diānchí, the large lake that the capital Kunming is built beside. You can say 云南菜 yúnnán cài,or 滇菜 diāncài (both mean Yunnan dishes), or 滇味 diānwèi (Yunnan flavour or taste.)

Aiyah, the soup looks cold! :) As soon as the soup arrives (very hot), the ingredients are put in, starting with the egg, ending with the noodles, and then you should put one of those empty plates on top of the bowl to allow everything to cook.

BTW, the table cloth is a traditional Yunnan design from the 大理 Dàlǐ region.

我也看过。 有没有江氏兄弟 wo ye kan guo. you mei you jiang shi xiong di (I've seen it too. You have The Brothers Jiang?)

Hi Jason, they are always made with rice noodles, so it is 过桥米线。 you can of course get lots of 面 (wheat noodles) as well, but not 过桥面.
