Tomorrow is a double celebration for me and fellow Aussie Poddies;Chinese New Year and Australia day;woo hoo.I'm not too sure how often they coincide but Australia Day is always Jan 26.I'm wondering how the mix will go.I've seen Chinese wear red and gold, but red, green and gold?Chinese Emperors hat with stubbies and thongs? Dim sums and meat pies?Yum cha and bbq's?

Thanks for the link RJ.I'll have to check that one out.I've not really had the chance to go through the archives and see what other lessons are on offer, but that one sounds like a good one.

Calkins,

Thanks for that mate.I realised 就是 means exactly, but I thought he was giving me a hint, not telling me the answer!

我在哪里?我迷路了

I never knew China map was seen as looking like a rooster, but now that it's been pointed out I can see that Beijing is at the throat and Shanghai is at the chest, and Harbin the eye.I wish I could read the 3 diffent views of the map.Very interesting stuff.I know Irelands map is meant to look like a
羊。

RJ,

Thanks for the confirmation.I love a good brain teaser, but I think you've got me stumped on this one.

jiu3 si4 or jiu4 shi4

..at a stretch could be made to sound a little like

"yo sir" or

"yassir"...as in yes sir

or josh

or joshua ..someones name

I presume you mean it sounds like something in English?

Now if it had been 10 four,I would have thought you'd been watching reruns of the old B.J.and the bear good buddy, or an old cop show.

I'm sure it's going to be obvious, but you've got me.

...might scare the baby, don't you think?

...but seriously, there may be a concern re the chemical constituents. For example, there has been lead in some lipsticks.

RJ,

Very good.I like that.It sounds like a famous quote but I googled it and came up with zippo,so if it's not already a famous quote it should be :)

"there is no exchange rate when it comes to opinion" RJBerki 2009

...can you translate that into Chinese for us too mate?

josht77,

Good question re pregnancy rules.I don't know the Chinese basis for these ,but I could postulate some:

Computer hazards here

Alternatively, the risks of mobile phone use may be exacerbated in pregnancy in this situation by vagueness

Perhaps washing could be older and be related to bathing in this sort of water:

kenm,

hao3 works for me.I think make sure there are no spaces.ke3ai4 will not work as it needs to be ke3 ai4 with a gap.Neutral tones need to have a 5 after them.

cassielin,

We have an expression in English "throw in my 2 cents" which basically means that you're going to give your opinion about something for what it's worth [2 cents is a very small amount of money].Pretty humble and to me seems to acknowledge that there are other opinions out there.I think azerdocmom was using 两份 as a Chinese equivalent/translation of this English expression.
