September 19, 2011 at 9:36 PMdate: 919 or 199 for 19th Sept, the date this lesson was published [or the events in the dialogue were meant to have taken place]. Perhaps Li tanzhang only rings his old phone on the anniversary of losing his family. Maybe it was actually a family members phone and when no-one answers he at least hears they're voice on the recorded message [so he'd get as big a shock as XiaoYou that someone has answered]. In an even stranger twist, perhaps XiaoYou is his long lost daughter who was kidnapped as a baby and 似乎 she senses Li tanzhang is her long lost father. [Perhaps this is also why:
同时,好像又有种特殊的力量在驱使小尤重新拿起那把锁
..perhaps she dimly subconsciously recognises the ringtone from when she was very young before she was kidnapped]. So it could be her birthday. Perhaps he knew only his daughter could crack the code [and would have a natural inclination to follow in his footsteps]
Alternatively, the phone could just be ringing because Li tanzhang had set up a sensor on his lock and it sent a message to him the moment someone started tampering with the lock and he wanted to catch the pryer/thief. Or he could be watching I guess.

September 19, 2011 at 9:35 PMoh, just listened to the rest of the podcast and at 18:19 David says:
其中的前三位是和日期有关的
。。。so the 1st 3 numbers refer to a date and not a year as I was guessing above
最后一位数字故事中已经提示了。。这是和那个铃声有关的
。。yeah, it sounded like that's what Xiao You was saying.

September 19, 2011 at 12:41 PMIt could also be based on his phone number, or his ringing tones I guess, but once again, not sure how well this ties in.

September 19, 2011 at 12:40 PMtalking of the code being based on sounds, I guess it could be 343 based on the tones in Li tanzhang, which would explain why she went for 3 numbers straight up and then hesitated on the 4th but I don't know how that would involve any past knowledge she has of him [at least knowledge that we, the audience, have also been privy to]

September 19, 2011 at 12:26 PMRJ朋友,
你知道“粉红豹”的系列是差不多我最爱的。。我非常喜欢。。让我笑死了
I'm not sure if you're calling me the bumbling Clouseau [...because I was such a dope above[and on previous cases]....if so, I like it], or if you're saying this episode is like the pink panther. I'm not sure if the 2 refers to this part 2 of the final mission or pink panther 2. But anyhow, when I suspected XiaoYou last time, I nearly went the other way and instead of suspecting the underling, nearly went for the boss [but you can't go accusing everyone, hehe]. So that would be in keeping with a pink panther theme which is perhaps what you're saying [is that what you were also getting at?..or am I off on my own themes again?], but the difference is that Li tanzhang is not bumbling. But the motive of the boss would be similar in some ways...at least in this case it could be the success of the famous Li tanzhang is outshining the boss and driving him mad. It may explain why he cut him off when Li tanzhang started to doubt. Also in this case it would explain Xiao You's disbelief which is what made me suspect 张局长 immediately.

September 19, 2011 at 12:07 PMXiao You also says:
"这第4位数字是......对了,这响声"
..which makes one think the code could be based on sounds. If we were going to continue with our Hawaiian shirt clue, you might think of the Beach Boys and a tune of theirs. eg Barbara Anne's ....ba ba ba ba barbara anne [but that would give 8888 and would not explain why she hesitated on the 4th number] [jeepers...bit close to my username, hehe ]

September 19, 2011 at 11:54 AMok, well for the 4 digit code, I'm wondering if his old fashioned Hawaian shirt is a clue. Perhaps it is the year this shirt was either made, or was popular. Makes me think of the 60's or 70's [particularly the 70's] but of course they were popular both before and after that time. Perhaps, being a detective, he's a fan of Hawaii Five-O [could 50 be part of the combination?]...originating in late 1960's. So maybe the first 3 digits were 196 or 197and while she felt she could guess the era from the shirt, she hesitated on the exact year. Looked it up and Hawaii Five-O originated in 1968. Perhaps a personal tragedy [which is the reason he doesn't have a family] occurred around that time and that's why he's stuck in that era.
