Sorry mate, I didn't see your reply at the time. Thanks for your input. I think you are right ....it is suggesting further. It also certainly sounds natural. While deep down I also know you are right, I'm not questioning you but more questioning Chinese I guess... I still can't help but feel though, that as natural is it sounds, it is still sticking to the understatement by habit...I mean isn't dianer suggesting further by a bit? ...and this chick sounds like she want's it to really be further by a lot. Perhaps this is reflecting a cultural habit of tolerance....she'll cope if he can just move a bit further. I'm trying to think how she would suggest moving a lot further away....like Australia, hehe.

Well something like spitting is more of a problem for others [and I guess may not even be perceived as so if it's on the ground and not them] whereas putting your fingers in your mouth would be a good route for faecal oral transmission if your hygiene and others is not up to scratch. I don't specifically know if this is the reason behind it though. I wonder if it's similar to the left hand thing in Indians....right hand for eating.

haha, very good mate. We might have to use our imagination to get a few more in there...could H be er but just linked in the middle to hold it together? that spag could easily make a D look like kou..mouth...but yeah, I think we're struggling. I'm also imagining how it would go trying to figure out characters with high stroke count in wobbly noodles...might be more challenging than cursive....unless you greatly increased the font...hehe, maybe a handful would be a whole meal. This reminds me, I passed a motorist the other day who had some characters ...like some sort of cut out of characters..hanging from rear view mirror..anyone seen them before? ...are they easy to come by?

talking of food, you know how there's alphagetti...is there 汉面？ that would be my favourite way of learning the characters...吃很多的汉子方便面很方便办法学习汉字，让你很胖不过这个说明你百事通[百吃通， 呵呵]

If they could both see the restaurant was full and there were no spare seats, I'm not sure why the woman wouldn't interpret:

那我们换个位子吧

as meaning changing places with the person she was dining with [as he wasn't bothered by it seemingly]. I mean if the noisy guy was next to her, while she may want to get as far away as possible, simply changing to the other side of the table may have helped. I'm wondering if that sentence somehow made it clear that they were both looking to move somewhere in the restaurant rather than simply swapping seats? ...the 我们 maybe? If he had been suggesting swapping seats with her, would he say something like this?:

那我跟你换个位子吧
