Thank you, gesang.  That makes sense.

Hi, in a Chinese language book I have, I recently saw "fuqin" for father and "muqin" for mother.  I was surprised because in Chinese 101 I had also learned "baba" and "mama" for father and mother.

What is the difference?

Hello, can someone tell me the difference between using hen and zhen .  Why is it

Ni "zhen" man!

and not Ni "hen" man!  in this Door lesson?

And why is it:

他的
Ta de jiao "hen" chou. (this is from the Stinky Feet lesson--expansion tab).

and not Ta de jiao "zhen" chou?

I'm confused about the difference.

My mom is from the Philippines where they always take off their shoes when entering a home.  My dad is an American and he's adopted the same custom.  So we don't wear shoes in our house. It sure does keep the house clean!

Thank you for telling me about the audio review.  I didn't know what it is and wasn't using it.  Now I'll start using it too!

Hi, I wonder how long it takes someone to finish all the Newbie lessons and move to the Elementary level? I took Chinese 101 at my school last fall and have been using ChinesePod to fill in this spring and summer until I can take Chinese 102 next fall. I'm sad to say I forgot a lot of things already from the time I finished Chinese 101 until my mom signed me up for ChinesePod--about 6 months!  Especially the characters!  I was lazy and didn't review my books as my laoshi advised me to do during that time.  --Mystic, Washington DC

Hi, I am a new member. I will miss Amber's programs.  The second half of this one reminded me of when I visit my grandma and grandpa, who are from the Philippines.  My grandma cooks tons of food all day and keeps making us eat a lot of everything she cooks.  We always come home fat after visiting them!  I think this is a tradition all over Asia.  --Mystic, Washington DC
