Despite my comments before, I actually agree with your comments about marriage. Perhaps I should just take solace in the fact that the push for gay equality is making even more of a mockery of this institution.

I'm a little confused about the difference between 全部 and 一切.

Isn't 'everything' and 'all of them' pretty much the same thing?

I can kind of see a difference, but its not clear enough for me to pick the correct word when constructing a sentence.

I'm dying to find out what that word could possibly mean.

I'm trying to come up with some ideas in my head before I listen to the podcast, but absolutely nothing comes to mind.

"I cheated and took the discussion private"

Does that mean you sent me a message? If you did, sorry but I don't know the password for my email address. My account is actually a couple of years old, and when I checked my settings I barely even recognised the email address I used to set up my account. I tried to log on, but neither of my regular passwords worked.

Well, I've never attacked any one individual for being gay, only the institution of 'gayness'. That is a degree of toleration, is it not?

Nothing TOO provocative I hope.

(i) "announcing that homosexuality makes your skin crawl on an educational message board is not." Again, merely your opinion stated as fact.

(ii) Interracial marriage is accepted by almost everyone and - most importantly - by the law. No-one is asking for a change to the law, so there is no need for a referendum. And we all know what the result would be if one were held. There has to be a modicum of common sense when generalising statements like that.

And of course the ability to apply a label dripping with negative connotation seals the deal. I'd start using my own labels now, except we know from past experience where that will lead, don't we: Here, catch this sea urchin. Now throw it back to me. Ouch, it spiked me ... mummy!

I said the concept makes my skin crawl. As such, no I did not back up the statement with any logical argument, but it is absolutely clear that I was explaining how it makes me feel. And if you want to say that that makes it meaningless, then every time someone says "I love you" then they are making a meaningless and useless comment. Comments are only meaningless when you pass off personal feelings as fact.

Regardless of my feelings, I believe in democracy above all else. So there should be a referendum on the matter. If that goes the way of gay marriage then I have no choice but to accept it. Until then ...

"because your comment was very, very far from incisive"

Clearly that is only an opinion, and it should be obvious to YOU that I don't share that opinion. As such, why would your intended sarcasm be obvious? Due to lack of intonation, sarcasm doesn't work on the web, at least without some other giveaway sign thrown in. I'm sure you heard the intonation in your own head, but it didn't come across, especially as it was in Chinese and I was only reading it with Peraperakun.

Now I am not religious - far from it - but saying "All arguments against marriage equality are based on religious belief and tradition, which are not real reasons to maintain official discrimination" is weak. WHY aren't they real reasons? Aren't you again basing that solely on your personal opinion? If you don't either back up that type of statement with fact or logic, or make it clear that it is tied to your own personal leanings on the matter, then you are the same as a drunk in the park yelling that the aliens are coming.

BTW - inanity is defined as "something empty of meaning or sense", not "something whose meaning or sense is opposed to your own definitions".
