It would be nice if the US would go metric already. I mean come on, even Australia was able to handle that one. Shame on us.

Tim,

No worries, you gave me enough to think about, and I trust your judgement over my hurried attempts to pound a square peg in a round hole any day. Your input is always welcome and appreciated.

More new magic. David and John doing an intermediate lesson. Good to hear a male voice now and then. Great job.

bohan,

I think she is saying that people pronounce this sound as bia but the closest character is ba ( 吧). Connie read it as ba so you wouldnt be asking why is she pronouncing 吧 incorrectly. It could confuse students since in every other case this is pronounced ba. This is onomatopoeia, not a real word so who cares. Say it as bia but it can only be represented in written Chinese as ba (吧). My question is how does this sound like smacking lips?

Hi Tim,

In the lesson banter, John and Dilu decide its just a "habit." I was just wondering if that's all there is, or they just left it at that since its an elementary lesson. Of course grammar comes after the fact, so I suppose there may be somebody somewhere with a formal explanation. For me at this point it just feels right, just like English quirks that I cant explain, and its not terribly important either, but I was just curious.

John,

I always interpreted the le on guole as signifying that it is really talking about the future, (future perfect aspect)  as in "it will be enough". Same with bie wangle. You cant forget until the future time arrives.Dont forget to take your money when you leave. If you have already left, its too late. You can not know if an amount of food is enough until you eat it. So you guess, it will be enough. Works for me anyway. Or is it truly just a habit?

Mafani,

yes the "first song" they mentioned is the one I listed below. "Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin". Here is a sinosplice link where John discusses it and you can play the song as well.

Great show. Looking forward to a song more appropriate for men to sing. Do men in China sing Teresa Teng songs at KTV?

You guys go together like Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon, for those old enough and American enough to remember. Good job.
