yes thank you Changye (and ooka)

cool hand Luke - one of my favorite movies from the early days. "Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand" I have always wondered if anyone could really eat 50 eggs.

trax,

I dont know the answer to that, and I wont speculate. What I think is unimportant, she had every right to make a change.

John, Thanks for listenting. I dont think its about pragmatics, its about length, depth and the target audience. The complaints included last weeks show. QW has been "dumbed down" and shortened and you have the feedback. Your move.

tvan,

a cultural observation:

In America there is a greater focus on the individual. To ask someone to pass the salt, is in effect asking them to expend energy on a task that does not serve them personally. To do so without saying thank you, is like saying, I am so special that you should consider doing something for me as important to you, as doing something for yourself. To avoid being considered arrogant we say thank you in recognition of their "sacrafice". Putting someone else equal to yourself or above yourself is reserved for special people such as wives or husbands.  Having said that, I have always disagreed with this approach because we should be willing to help others, the favor will no doubt someday be returned, and I like making other people happy (this is what makes a good lover too btw). The Chinese have a greater focus on what is good for the group and they would probably consider our requirement to be thanked every time we expend the least amount of energy on someone else's behalf as selfish. I have to agree. I like the Chinese approach, like it very much. We say thank you way too much. So much it has lost its meaning. As for teaching this difference to beginners, its the easiest one. Very simple - dont say thank you so much. Easy. With a little practice. isnt it?

Hi Mike,

since you asked - the correct spelling is draconian.

@Brent Calkins,

what do mean we are always complaining? :-) Constructive criticism is a form of flattery. If it were really bad, I would just walk away. Over all, cpod still gets an A.

Not only has cpod lost its best talent, it seems they have made a conscious decision to use QW to target the money group - the early beginners. And dont tell me it was always that way because the show was good before (and I would venture to guess that it pulled in all the beginners). Its like its fallen off a cliff. At least the stock market crapped out gradually. I doubt I will listen to the next one. I dont think cpod fully appreciated the talent they had in Amber scorah. Had that talent been properly rewarded, maybe she would still be there. Dont know, but the show is half as long as it used to be and the content is terrible. Next week Ni hao and zai jian. Maybe they are just running out of stuff? Maybe the guy in charge of the ideas is too busy doing something else?  Amber owned that show. Who owns it now?
