January 18, 2010 at 6:37 PMCould someone write out, or tell me where I can find what is literally being said for the Chinese portion of the audio review? The speaking is too fast for me to understand.
thanks

November 27, 2009 at 5:47 PMHello everyone,
I have been in China for about two months now, and one skill that I have found myself really needing to use is saying numbers. This is particular when at a street vendor or shopping center. When I ask 'how much' I am typically given a figure in Chinese. At any rate, I just want to say that more lessons that deal with counting, and with numbers in general at the newbie level would be nice.
thanks,
George

July 22, 2009 at 8:46 PMHi everyone,
I notice on the pinyin chart that is downloadable from this site, that the 'a' is only functionable for the first tone. When I click on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th tones, I hear nothing. When I click on 1st - 4th tones, I hear the sound for the first tone then silence. I have thus concluded that a is only used in the first tone, but I wanted to comment on this in this thread to be sure. Thanks in advance.

July 19, 2009 at 8:40 PMHi Everyone, its has been a while. I am still studying on a daily basis (for the most part). I have a question.
In lesson 'Bumming a Smoke' (#760), the dialogue is:
you3 mei2 you3 yan1?
you3, yao4 huo3 ma5?
yao4, xie4 xie5.
bu4 yong4 xie4.
Could this be used while keeping the meaning intact;
you3 yan1 ma5?
you3, yao4 huo3 yao4?
yao4, xie4 xie5.
bu4 yong4 xie4.
thanks.

January 24, 2010 at 2:06 PMI thought I was an elementary learner until I took the tests, and found that I am at newbie level. My abilities are not balanced, as I can handle the elementary levels for speaking, listening and some reading, but I struggle with writing. The tests have shown me that I need to focus more on writing.
