Oh man, I just realized that you may have been joking... If you knew this already and you were only joking, then I offer my most sincere apologies.

This year is an exception, it is a leap year. This means that the extra day will push all the other dates after feb 29 ahead by one day, so March 1st fell on a Thursday. If it were not a leap year, it would fall on Wednesday.

This year, Valentines day fell on a Tuesday. Chrismas day will also fall on a Tuesday this year. Normally, Chrismas day would be one day behind Valentines day.

Most respectfully,

George from Amesbury Ma

Well, the dialogue here is so clear and easy to understand, but bear in mind... If you are like me, and live in a smaller city, the common people will often use variant pronunciation and local vocabulary. If this happens, try not to be discouraged. I would say that this is normal. The key is to try to pick up some of the local phrases, these vary from place to place. Thats all I got.

I thought that 汉语 referred to Mandarin, and there are other names for the other dialects such as Cantonese 粤语... Am I wrong?

Natachap,

To me, it seems that the 高铁 is always nearly twice as fast as the 动车. 动车 seems to be more common. These observations are just my impression, and may not be accurate. Please take them with a grain of salt.

Bababardwan,

Oh sure,... but really,... you two should put some work into your answers... =)

No seriously, I do appreciate it, but I hope you two can consider this a labor of love, something that is enjoyable, and not a duty. I sometime like asking these questions for the pursuit of the answer and ensuing discussion that follows.

Thats all,

George

As far as the Cafe point, so long as you are referring to a coffee shop, the people here in Baoding would know that either a 咖啡厅 or 咖啡店 would refer to a coffee shop, cannot say whether this is true everywhere in China.

As far as chains are concerned, I like 八十五度 coffee shop chain (seems to be based in Jiangsu and Shanghai), and 好利来 (see lot of these in Hebei, I like their coffee).
