go_manly,

Thanks for going to the trouble to compile the list for us!

Frequency lists are always based on a corpus. A corpus is a sample of language. There are many types of language: written, spoken, formal, informal, etc. Thus, there are many types of corpora.

The corpus Jun Da used to create the frequency list was a news corpus, and not representative of the most basic spoken Mandarin needed for communication.

Please rest assured that linguists like me take these issues seriously! :)

ChinesePod: now with crazy random sound effects!

I'm glad at least one of you found it funny, but I think we'll be all right without these in the future. :)

xibanyawen,

Amber did great work here at ChinesePod, and we all loved working with her.  She has moved on now, and is doing other things.  Let's just leave it at that and keep learning Chinese.

I love the time-lapse hot pot effect in this video. Perfect!

And of course, I enjoyed being one of those anonymous sets of chopsticks as well... :)

changye,

In Shanghainese also, they say 吃烟.  It's really cool how different dialects retain different aspects of the language. This fact is a useful tool when researching ancient forms of a language.

misterjess,

Let's hope not, because as we all know, when the ninjas arrive, people die.

Yeah, Annar, that avatar is awesome. Goes quite nicely with this lesson, too.

Anyway, thanks!

That Zhang Xiansheng is never around when you need him!

Mike: I think Jenny is already familiar with Who's on First, but if not, I will make sure she listens to it!

babardwan,

But you don't get to find out all the answers in life! :)
