Simonpetterson,

Pulling in too many characters at once can really slow Skritter down, so we've set it up to limit the number of characters Skritter pulls in at once.

It works like this:

1. From a lesson page, "vocabulary" tab, you can practice all the key vocab words you have checked when you press the button.

2. From a lesson page, "vocabulary" tab, you can practice all the supplementary vocab words you have checked when you press the button.

3. From the vocabulary manager page, you can practice all the key vocab words you can see on the page when you click on the "Writing Practice" link at the top.  (If you choose the default number of items to 50 or 100, you can practice that many words at a time, but this will slow Skritter down.)  If you don't check any, it defaults to all.  If you check any, it will give you only those.

ivorr88,

Traditional character support had some issues when we first launched Skritter Lite beta last Wednesday, but it has since been fixed.

Just make sure you see traditional characters on either the lesson "vocabulary" tab, or on your personal vocabulry manager (accessible through the "Me" section).  When you launch Skritter, it will draw from those traditional characters.  (Click on the little gray cog to change your character set to traditional characters, if you have not done so already.)

li4wei3,

Hmmm, that's a good point. No, it was not fully covered in our 12-part course, but maybe we could add a supplementary lesson to cover it?

What do you other learners think?

alexzye,

The HTC Hero I bought (水货 imported from Eastern Europe) looked like it had Chinese input out of the box, but it didn't work for me.  Google Pinyin Input (谷歌拼音输入法) was easy to install, though.

I actually just wrote a blog post on how to do it.

我刚买了HTC Hero。我觉得很不错,为了它愿意离开我的第一代iPhone。:)

PDFs for past Qing Wens are coming, but the team* has also been busy working on generating new, better exercises for a bunch of old lessons (that's a lot of lessons!).

RJ, Skritter is coming very soon...

*"team" is a collective noun like "trio"...  it's just way more commonly used, so it doesn't seem strange ever.

Every now and then, our dialogues get cinematic. This is one of those times. (Good job, David Xu!)

There are some great Chinese Dinosaur sites online. I like the 恐龙博物馆, which has scientific names alongside Chinese names, and some English, although the info is not always complete. (I have to admit I like the domain name, too: sinodino.com! hehe)

Happy birthday, Henning!  I hope you like the lesson.

You're going to love the Skritter integration too!

usr190809,

Any device that works like a mouse should work fine. The first time I tried out Skritter, it was with a tablet, and it was great.

You don't need a tablet with any special "writing" functionality or handwriting recognition functionality, because Skritter handles that.

dusty1,

The exercises can handle issues with multiple character sets, multiple representations of neutral tone, punctuation errors, and spacing errors, but it doesn't yet have 儿化 mastered. We're working on it.
